buying a new lens for my camera

i have a Canon EOS rebel XT and ive had it for almost half a year. i want to get a new lens and i want to start taking pictures of people riding. im not sure what size lens i should get and what features i should be looking for when buying a lens? thanks

I use a 75-300 for my pictures, and I take photos of everything from sunsets, to gunnery photos' and pictures of helicopters in flight, and they turn out pretty damn good, thats what I suggest. Sometimes I wish I had a little more zoom, but you start to get into the range you need a support if you go too much higher.
