well i bought a 83 yota 4x4 with 10inch lift about 3weeks ago. well me and another boy took it to the big mudhole that nobody can cross to try it out. well we hit it goin about 40 and almost went threw the windshield (seatbelts are nice). the truck started makin all kinds of noises in the mudhole and locked up. it had a major oil leek. water is comin inside the truck. i gotta get it out. anybody know how hard it is to put a 22r in a toyota? or should i just part it out?

easy to put a new one in. get a new rebuilt motor off ebay for like $1000 and they come and pick yours up so you get your core charge back. I have a 1989 toyota pickup 4x4 too http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid193/p58f90c9dee0ba82f59f5db8605db4332/f1840f24.jpg 320,000 miles :p

a 22r is fairly simpe to change, and cheap as well. A rebuilt one is about 1200

Why would you hit a mud hole at 40mph????????? im surprised you didn't bend anything other than sucking mud and water in the engine and bending the rods...

Here is a tip, if you don't want to blow your motor again, don't hit giant mud holes that fast so that water gets in the engine.

Better yet, don't hit mud holes at all. heh, I'm one to talk, I just went mudding last night, but I take it nice and slow until I feel the truck sinking, then it's usually all over but the cryin...

well theres this mudhole at the end of my road that has a well reputaion for gettin stuck in..ive NEVER seen a truck cross it besides the one time we crossed it on an old 4wd suburu at 45mph. during the summer i would ride down to it on friday nights and always see sone highschool boys stuck in it. this is one bad mud hole. the engine has been water proofed with the intake going up and a u in the bottem for water to stay in if it does get in. i know that mud really messes stuff up thats why ive never tried it on my tacoma. im gonna go get it out tomarrow and i aint decided if im gonna just part it out. or put a motor in it. ive found a 22r in a 86 toyota 2wd that the boy ran into someone crossing the road and i can get the whole truck for $200. im not sure if im gonna do it or not.

it has one super swamper and lockers. lol

Please tell me you haven't just let that truck sitting in a mud hole for the past 3 or days. You are probably going to have to replace all the berrings, every seal in the front and rear end, the gear oil in the front and rear end. Sitting there for 3 days you will have mud and water in everything.

one superswamper and lockers?????? were the other 3 street slicks or what ........ That U aint gonna stop water from getting sucked in....... not if your givin her hell....... Are you sure the engine is toast? and yea did you just leave it in the mud hole? If so just leave it there that'll keep everyone else from getting stuck......... Next time get a real truck to do your muddin in....

if its off an 83 then its for a straight axle and will not work with your 89 IFS...

light trucks make it further then a full size. cause this hole seems like it has no bottem. a full size truck cant come down these trails anyway. they are way too wide. i got some help today and we went it pulled it out with my truck. im gonna work on it in the morning. it the motor might be ok. i turned it off as soon as it sounded like it was gonna lock up. im not worried about the axles bearings and stuff. all this truck needs to do it go about 1/2 mile to the swamp where she will stay in the mud. all its gotta to is run and go till the tires fall off.

You tossed a rod through the block. We do alot of off roading and we have seen that happen alot with the 22r' they last forever untill that happens. most of the motors that toss the rod' have alot of mile on them anyway.

any 79-85 toyota front axle can be swapped in man... all toyotas are passenger side drop, therefore jeep wrangler axles will not work, however sold old jeep wagoneers had a passenger side drop D44 which would work...

yeah i would be in the process of my SAS right now but i also threw a rod with my 22R, so its 302 swap time... those interested in my build can check out my thread on bluetraxx...

my SAS will come next winter and i plan on using an 84-85 front axle swapping in some Longfield chromoly birfields... that will make it a little stronger then a D44... im gonna use 5" All Pro Off Road springs, and bushwhacker cut outs, with my 3" body, and run 38" TSL Radials...
