Iam buying a 06 450r and I want to put a HRC kit on.Should I get it put on when I buy the 450 or wait till it is broken in and then put it on?

I wondered the same thing and basically decided I didn't want anyone wrenching on my quad that I didn't know. I will either do it myself or get Dirt First to do it. So, I went the break it in first route.

In any case if you do get it done first, make sure you get all the original parts. When I had my Raptor upgraded, the mechanic tried to keep all my parts. You can recoup some of your costs by selling on ebay as new take-offs instead of as used.

When I bought mine I had the dealer install the kit before I even picked it up and I have had no problems at all.

I put about for hours on mine and then took it in

it really doesn't matter, break-in period is the key thing whether it's installed or not. It would prolly be best to get the HRC kit and then break it in properly, instead of waiting for the cam to go through it's loop alone.

I had about 6hrs on mine before I installed the kit. It took longer to get to the carb and valve cover than it took to put it in

Just curious how much did you guys pay to have it installed NOT including the price of the kit? is it hard to do yourself? do you have to do a valve adjustment?

It'll vary between shops, but I would figure it's at least 2.5 hours worth of uninterrupted work. Depending on where you go, I would figure an additional $125-$175. Difficulty depends on your mechanical ability, and yes, you'll have to adjust the valves.

It is harder to adjust the valves on the 450r versus the 400ex as you will need shims to get the proper spacing.

The HRC kit is great for motocross, but NOT recommended for GNCC or woods racing because it TAKES AWAY from the mid and bottom, and adds considerably to the top.
