Would JB Weld work on this? At least as a temporary fix?

is your header cracked......I would say it would hold up okay, as long as it could with stand the heat....I'm no expert though....

i wouldnt put jb weld on that....id take it to a local muffler shop and get them to re weld it...proally cost a few dollars but its better then using jb weld and wind up messin the headpipe up....

Im pretty sure it cant withstand that much heat, that stuff REAKS when you burn it too.

no i dont think it will,i tried it a few years back on a 2 stroke pipe and it would flake off once it got hot.maybe the vibration was too much fror it

I doubt it will work. I tried it on my wifes old 2 stroke trailblazer pipe and the stuff just cracked after about 15 min. of riding around the yard. I'd just have it welded like TCracin440ex said. Also make sure they don't try to braize(sp) it instead of welding either. It didn't work on the TB pipe either.:ermm:

Thanks for the info:)

Next question....

Would it be better to have it welded while it's installed or when it's off?

i imagine it would be easier to weld while its off but if a welder can do it on the bike then more power to him,it'll save you the 10 min from takin it off:D

I wouldn't risk having it welded on the bike since the fuel tank is directly above the pipe. I thought I read something about welding causing possible damage to your electrical system too.

It's not so much a time or ease issue, it's about getting it lined up correctly.

I suppose it would work either way seeing how it can be fitted back to the original position via the old weld can but i'm not much of a welder:ermm: :p

I'm aware of that and was planning on disconnecting the battery and CDI.

I figured you did but I thought I'd mention it just to be sure. Couldn't you just put a few tack welds over the crack and then remove the pipe to finish the welds to make sure it will line up?

Makes sense to me:)

I'm not planning on doing it myself, i'm just learning how to weld and i'm not set up to do stainless yet:ermm:

Thanks for the input;) :)

No problem. Good luck with it.

that wouldn't be that hard to weld, even if you did it in place, but that all depends on what type of welder they use. Arc may well damage circuts, but O-A would do just fine installed.

I dont know why brazing would't hold on that, but I'd prolly just run a little bead around the hole thing if it was me...

have it welded.

JB weld only withstands 600 degrees of heat.

I agree with the others. Take it to your local muffler shop and have them weld it up. They can make sure it's square when they weld it.

Probably be cheaper than buying the tube of JB Weld. ;)

as rico indicated jbweld breaks-down and will begin to cook over 600.

basically, jbweld is only good below or up to about 500 degrees.

Joe What kind of pipe is that it is stainless. If you live closer i
would let you borrow one I have a few in the bone pile. Like
a power bong, and a stock one.

All you need to do is mark it when its mounted. So when you remove all you have to do is line it up. Some one said tack it then take it. That is another good idea.

JOEX, I've got enough faith in you that you can just put a little spot weld on there, maybe even 2 spots, then get it welded. And there is nothing you really need to do to a mig welder to weld stainless, provided it's not set up to weld aluminum or something fancy.

For 2 spot welds just try not to burn a hole through the header, and it'll be all good.

i tried the same thing on my pos big gun it will set on fire on a four stroke or at least mine did

Disconnect the battery, then tack it while its in place, then take it off to get it tig welded somewhere. If you just take it off and get it welded it might not line back up right.

Thanks for all the input:cool:

I'm thinking of doing it myself but 'im pretty sure it's stainless (it's and LTE system). I thought you needed gas to to weld SS and I don't have a tank yet.

If I take it off i'm pretty sure the old welds would act as a guide for lining it up. I can push it up and you can hardly tell there's a crack.

I also have a stock header and a Powerbong if I have to switch:D

I would still tack it even without gas just to get the thing held in place. I weld and have tried lining breaks up like you said and they pull when you weld it. Like I said earlier it might not line back up if you don't!

i have welded on my exhaust about 100 times now,i have never disconnected the battery etc, never had a problem,i guess it would be on the safe side though,i have a mig welder

yeah I tried the JB weld thing one time on my old quad...it burned off in a few minutes. You need to have it tig welded, those stainless headers are pretty thin, I had my HMF head pipe tigged together because I kept losing springs and HP thru that crappy 2 piece setup. Anyway I tacked it with my 110v mig so it would be lined up correctly when I took it off and almost burned thru. Soooooo be careful when you go to tack it together.

Well, I got a tank of gas and some SS wire and welded it.....
It doesn't leak. I'll find out Saturday if it's going to hold.
