Does anyone know if a 2002 Raptor has a "starter clutch?" I am asking this for a friend who is having trouble with his starter. The quad turns the starter but it's like it spins over freely inside the casing almost like the gears are striped or a clutch on the starter isn't engaging.

Any help is appreciated!

Yep, the one way is shot. And last I checked they're all on backorder too. 260 for parts plus labor.

Turns out some spring came loose and tore off the 6 bolt heads in there, bolt heads were laying at the bottom of the block, luckily they didnt get up into the engine.

This is common make sure you find all the heads to those bolts.

hey colby, what spring does this happen to, and do you know why, and is there any way to prevent it?

Yea he found all the bolts. The only problem was getting those broken studs out!

The spring is around the one way clutch, when the clutch breaks it also breaks the spring. The only fix is to install a new oneway and starter gear.
