I just bought a 2006 KFX 400 in the orange and black. You all helped me make my decision! Now my question is are there any problems with this bike, or any issues that need to be worked out before I start taking this thing riding? I have read something about some year models of the 400 and a clutch cover messing up, what years? Also are there ANY other problems or things I should know about this quad?

I took pictures off the thread over at Z400Central and printed them out to show my dealer. They said they had never seen anything like it and unless the dealer who uncrated those quads didn't use distilled water or if the people hadn't changed antifreeze they don't know why it would do that. They took my cover off while I was there right before I picked it up today and it looked clean as a whistle, so far so good.

Do yourself a HUGE favor.....INSIST that your dealer drain the coolant and replace it with Evans NPG-R coolant.....my 06 LTZ 400 was only 3 months old and I insisted the dealer pull the water pump and check. They thought I was crazy until they pulled the pump and found the corrosion.....they then called Suzuki and got them to cuff the bill for the coolant change. This problem only applies to 05's and 06's (magnesium covers)

Other than that, no problems with the bike at all. In fact, I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

Mine too......

You need to atleast change out the factory coolant and get Evans NPG+ or NPG-R. You WILL have motor failure if you don't take care of this.:( By the way this motor had 2hrs on it. Orignal EVERYTHING.

another way to solve the problem would be to buy another quad that is not made by suzuki

I still feel that this problem pales in comparison to the problems Yamaha and Honda have with their quads....... Everything has its problems.

I see you live in NC as well. Where do you ride and have you done anything about your clutch cover yet?

For the type of coolant...... I would run Evans NPG+ or the NPG-R. Evans is a coolant designed with no water, so it completely stops the corrosion. All coolants containing water will have to be changed out every 4-6 months. The Evans is costly, but when your changing water based coolants 2-3 times a year the cost balances out.

93MX6LSV6 I live in Salisbury. About 30 mins NE of Charlotte. We ride alittle bit of everywhere. Shoot me a pm, your more than welcome to come riding with us. ;)

Yes, if you don't plan on changing the cover you definetly need it. You can call Evans direct and get info also. You should get the prep fluid also to purge all the water out.

Have you checked your pump outlet? Do that to clean all the crud out.
