EPA QUESTIONAIRE ....we need your help! This is not a joke.
Ok guys and gals, this is not one of our usual jokes. We need to help!
I have attached an "EPA QUESTIONNAIRE" for you to fill out and
information from American Iron Magazine. For complete information on
this read American Iron Magazine (AIM), Jan and Feb issues.
The current and proposed EPA laws for new and past emissions rules
threaten to shut down the motorcycle industry as we know it. Current
and proposed laws state that we will not be able to change our stock
motorcycles except for the paint! Things like our exhaust systems,
intake systems or even our drive systems on stock bikes will be off
limits. The custom and aftermarket industries will probably not even
exist if this happens in a few years!
The Motorcycle Industry Council's (MIC) V-twin Aftermarket Committee,
which is composed of some of the largest manufacturers and distributors
in the aftermarket is currently in negotiations with the EPA concerning
a Letter of Guidance for engine certification. If adopted as written,
this doc will give a huge advantage to the large engine manufacturers.
AIM does not believe the MIC is doing this to put other engine
companies and small engine shops out of business, but they believe that
will be the end result.
The EPA needs to know that the MIC does not represent the small shops
and businesses in their negotiations with the EPA. The Motorcycle
Riders Foundation (MRF) has stepped in and is in negotiations with the
EPA on OUR behalf. THIS IS WHY IT IS CRITICAL FOR US TO FILL OUT THE
ATTACHED QUESTIONNAIRE AND RETURN IT TO THE MRF AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
The MRF is working with legislators, EPA, and the Small Business
Administration on proposals to keep the aftermarket unaffected and yet
compliant with the new and past EPA laws. To persuade the EPA and
SBA, we need to give them the facts that only we , the bike owners and
builders can supply. Tell them the full story on how much the
motorcycle aftermarket industry has grown.
Please fill-out the attached document AND pass this along to everyone
you know who wants to protect our motorcycle lifestyle and industry.
Thanks!
