my 300 is blowing black/gray smoke out the pipe until it is warmed up, after i start it up the engine has less than 5 hours, is that normal?

When you say it has less than 5 hours on it do you mean it was just rebuilt. Most likely its your valve seals leaking.

If it's black/grey and not bluish it is carbon from unburnt fuel, though.

Your idle circuit may be too rich? Is the motor loading up at idle?

If it's got a bluish tint to it, it would be the valve guide seals as the above stated.

Of course.. the question is what color does synthetic burn??? It may not burn blue.. so it may be the valve seals anyway.

So should i bring it back? once its warmed up it runs perfectly

If you had someone rebuild the motor, or its a new one. Definatley take it back and make them fix it. ;)

Mine has never smoked at startup.

u said it was could out so it is probly just the hot air hiting the cold air witch makes smoke..... lol stop skipping science class

What was rebuilt. Check the shops invoice an see if they charged you for valve seals. If they rebuilt the head than you should take it back.

mine did that when it was cold with about 7 hours on it.


than once when the weather warmed up it stoped.

correct me if im wrong, but i believe black/grey smoke is caused from condesation in the pipe. I asked this same question and got the answer i told you.

yeah its most likey the cold air, its been cold lately, i got an .80 piston and a .335 webcame...im running half 110/half 93 for gas
