why do you want your crank welded? it is only usefull on multi cylinder bikes, on a cingle cylinder it does nothing.

actually... on a multicylinder bike, the connecting rods are two piece, (the main rod, with a "C" like cap bolted to the bottom) and do not require the removal of the pin to install. they're bolted on. on single cylinder bikes, the connecting rod is removed and installed by dissassembling the three piece crank itself and the pin must then be replaced... this causes wear in the pinslot, making it ever so much less ticht for the new pin which isn't oversized. in order to keep this pin (which is only pressed in) from moving laterally when the engine is harmonically vibrating perhaps due to a high compression forged piston (which is heaver than stock, making more harmonic vibrations, especially ina single cylinder engine), machine shops can (and do regularly)weld the pin into the crankshaft halfs to keep it static. multicylinder cranks not only have no value of welding, there's really no need since they're cast and one piece. besides, higher power 400EX's have a habbit of slipping the pin... honda service technicians recommend this as well.
