letters on number plates?

are you allowed to run letters on your number plate in real races . i've always ran mine as c4 just racing with my friends.

Why, do you see any on Rickie's or Bubba's. The only time that letters should be allowed is on M/C flat tracking. The letter stands for the area of the US that you come from. The letters are in the AMA rulebook for each area.
