View Full Version : Favorite Drummer?

There is a thread on peoples favorite guitar players so I figured id start one on drummers.
Skill-wise I think Neil Peart is the greatest drummer ever. Alex Van Halen is good too, he has a unique style/sound. But my personal favorite has to be Tommy Lee. He plays so hard and is really solid live. When I saw Motley Crue on tour last spring I was amazed by his playing.

Most of you probably don't remember him, but he is definately one of if not the best ever. You need to watch some of their live concerts to really understand him. He has two sets on stage at all times that he switches between, on top of that they are just a 3 member band and have some good music.
Artimus Pyle from Lynyrd Skynyrd has an awesome style to me also, one thing about him is he plays traditional, not many drummers now play set traditional.

I think the key to all of the different names is that they are all great in their own respective genre's. It's hard to compare Lars to Kenny Aronoff fairly and vice versa.

Lars is way overated...the group as a whole is awesome...But lars is a basic drummer he does have a good ear though but as far as drummers go he isnt very good..
No Kenny Aronoff, Is one of the best and hardest working drummers out there he has backed more bands than I listen to in a givin week....from country to Metal he has done it all and done it all well....
He has some of the best learning tapes out there also...

i love metallica and think lars is a awesome drummer, but i think there are way better than him. the guy in avenged sevenfold is awesome. that song bat country? hes on it! he makes that song twice what it would be without him.
another i one I heard once, but was amazed by was the drummer in cradle of filth
neil pert (sp?) seems to really have the technical side down tho.

I comletely agree. His stuff really isn't that technical but he does try to change things up a little. Most of the time it isn't that great and doesn't actually mesh with the song.
I love the band though and he can make it work.
