I just got a raise and plan on buying a quad. From what I have heard the KFX/LTZ/DVX are some of the best quads out there for all around riding. My main thing is electric start, suitable power, and reverse. My question is, how much did everyone pay out the door on their 400's so I have an idea on what to offer the guys at the dealer so I don't get ripped. Please post your out the door price and the year model of the quad. Thanks!

400 is a great bike, but if you are going to spend 6k get a trx450r IMO. Hate to put this in a 400 thread.....but much more bike for the money. I

He said he wanted

Reverse
Electric start

The 450r has none of that.

WAKE UP first off 06 trx450r has electric start ..... he said this"My main thing is electric start, suitable power, and reverse" TRX450R has two of those. The 06 now has electric start. The 450r also has way more power. So for 6k you are getting alot more bike for your money. If reverse is a must have then the z400 is the way to go. Just giving some info to help out.

Come on , the 450r doesn't have that much power than the z400's and they are hard to start when they are hot. my z runs with any 450 out there on any track and in the woods I kill them. So dont think its better because it says "450"!!

O.K. i am not trying to down the 400 ..... a TRX450 vs. a LTZ400 stk vs. stk with same rider ....LTZ400 will lose everytime. FORSURE no questions asked. Just giving options. Dont hang me?

Actually, my 450r starts easily even when hot... and although I am not saying that your bike may not have 450 power, I can walk all over average z400s. I agree that the 400 is better suited for the guy, however, but to say that a z400 has similar power is not even close.

Pre 2006 honda 450r's are a joke!! Only one worth even looking at is the 2006 models. On the average they DO NOT start easy when hot. I cant tell you how many poor 450 owner are kicking their *****es off thying to get them started in harescramble races. So dont kid yourself. my z400 has everybit as much power as your "450" but with more bottom end power. Say what you must any z owner that is modified can run with a pre 2006 honda 450r especially in tight woods.

I have already owned a 450r. I had the 2004 model. I had no problems with starting and didn't mind the kick start. But now I want a trail bike so electric start is a must have, as well as reverse. I hated having to get off the 450 to turn it around in TIGHT spots. Also the maintenance that is recommended on the 450r is a big turn down for me. I want a quad that is good to go for recreation and hard riding, not just racing.

PS: I traded my 450r on here for a CBR 600 F4i about a year ago.

I have an 06 LTZ400, I like it a lot, like you I wanted electric start and reverse. I was looking at the 250, but the dealer seemed to think it'd be too small and I'd get bored soon, so I went with the 400. It was a good choice, I paid $5500 out the door brand new. I like the bike a lot, but look at the DVX because it has removable fenders (cool idea) and 06 comes in a Tony Stewart decal package that looks kind of neat.

Ya if reverse is a must then Z400 is the best choice IMO.

Hmmm...you must have an exceptional Z to out the R...i have a piped, carbed and cammed KFX and it will run with them but not outrun them!!! I agree with Rawdeal.....if you want reverse...get the Z...if you want power...get the R.

450R is faster, no arguements, no questions. But let's see what the 450 Quadracer will do........

There is nothing wrong with a used Z, that's how i got mine. if you get a used 04 or 05 it should still be in good shape, plus you have the advantage of getting one mods and it will still be cheaper that new out the door.
