View Full Version : 2006 versus 2005 Steering stem

Are they the same? It appears that the design is different at the bottom and a stem from a 2005 would not fit the 2006.

Anyone had success installing an older, aftermarket stem into a 2006? If so, who made it?

Thanks,

Jon

Check with Houser Racing, they have them listed.

strange because the tabs are much longer on the 2005 stem versus the 2006 stem. In fact, the tabs will hit the frame before hitting the tab stops on the frame. I have mounted an aftermarket steering stem onto the 2006 and it didn't work. After contacting the company and they looked into it, they agreed it was different and would have to use a new design.

2nd, the angle of the bracket on the steering stem that the tie-rods attach to is different.

3rd, the spacing of the holes in this same bracket is different.

Guessing you would either need to use 2005 tie-rods or possibly the 2005 front spindles since the 2006 tilt inward more than the 2005.

im pretty sure they are differnt, i spoke to houser a month or 2 back and they had said that the 06 stems were almost done.

I am guessing lots of companies thought there weren't any differences. I just wanted to see what others might have experienced.

My quad is just sitting without a steering stem. I also think there is a difference in the mounting bracket for the left rear plastic on the 2006 450er versus a 2005r due to the battery location. This might pose a problem when installing some aftermarket heel guards.

Really wish people selling products on e-bay would specify products as 2004/5 versus 2006.

and i have ordered a stem for my 04, and my 06 through...ultimately you guys.............

they are identical as well as the oem stems being a match. ( I can provide pics as verification if anyone wants them)

only thing i would note. the diameter of the oem and the houser stem are different.

I went to mount the houser stem on the 04, and the dampner no longer fits (OD of the OEM is larger than the OD of the houser)

Prey, thanks for the offer but I actually have a stock stem. I need a stem that will fit the 1 1/8" Flexxbars. Preferably +1 or +2 since I am tall (6'6")

Are you saying if you put a 2004 next to a 2006 stem you can't tell the difference? I don't actually have a 2005 to compare with but I can see the differences between my stock 2006 and the aftermarket stem that was designed for a 2005 450r.

right jon, no difference between 04 and 06, i can e-mail ya pics taken with a tape measure if ya want.....

i am 6'4", i went with the houser +2, (which just feels freakin awsome) antivibe set up on both of my 450R's (I ordered the stem for one bike, when I installed and sat on it, I ordered the same stem for the other that same day)

if ya dont wanna spend the $$$ on that set up, there are a couple companies that make a 7/8" to 1 1/8" (tag i know for sure and a few others, just fits right in your oem clamp) converter that gives about 1" rise and will allow you to mount the fat bars, I am sure C&D could get that for you too, those are around $70-90
