paint will NOT hold up on aarms. try a product called Por-15 . It s alot stronger than paint.

The heat from the curing procces does something to the ball joints, and weakens them.

Has anybody seen a 400 with a blue and orange colour scheme? I think the black would look pretty sweet.

yes, ive seen quite a few 400's with the blue and orange scheme. i race against a kid that has a 400 frame p/ced blue and has orange plastic, but a 250 dirt bike motor. and he has custom stickers on the front of his hood that look chrome and it is nice.

cant powdercoat the a arms because the ball joint is non removeable and the boot will melt causing premature wear of the balljoint.

Gloss or Chrome Black frame with Red A-arms and Swinger.........;)

Unless you plan on changing the plastic......then who knows?

P.S.

Flat Black SUCKS! This ain't a Mad Max movie, and besides, flat black is a pain in the *** to maintain. Talk about showing dirt, scratches and....?

Your 400 looks good.... just majke sure you powdercoat it, don't go el cheapo spray cano.

I think mixing up the frame color from the A-arm and swingarm color looks cool. I'd stick with black and red. I think you can PC your stock A-arms too.

I was thinking about pulling my bike apart next winter and powder coating the frame,
is it a pain in the butt to disassemble/reassemble? Ive just been going back and forth with the idea and dont know if I want to hassle with it if it will suck to put back together without ending up with spare parts when im done..

Does any one know where to get por-15 in Canada? And i got a question about racing, is there a class that does not allow u to have aftermarket a-arms? Like i want to get into racing and my a-arms are stock but i might modify them a little, and i dont have many performance parts on my quad other than a pipe an filter. thanks.

they have 2 colors i think i used black. works very well and a high gloss. not sure how much on a frame but the small kit did a set of arms and a coule small parts.

But honestly pappy can give you a much better coating that will last much longer. Plus he is a great pearson to deal with. He will treat you better than you could expect also!he did all my parts and im VERY happy with all he has done for me!

did he finally sell that 400ex? i thought it was damn sharp looking.

por15 is ok, i tried using it and honestly went back to pc:p i have heard that it works incredibly well on very rusted metal such as frames for jeeps/trucks etc.

I was going to do my stock a-arms with that Por15 but some people have been saying that after a little while the sun causes it to loose its gloss then it looks like cr@p, so is there anything I could do to prevent this?

Dupont Emron is a great paint for the a-arms. It is very hard when it dries and it will look good for a long time. I have also used PPG one step polyurithan. It has a high gloss finish without a clear coat. Ill get some pictures of my a-arms when I get home again. Here is the start of my rebuild. It will have red a-arms, stem and swinger. I know its pretty plain, but this is a woods racer, so no need to bling it out.

And when you take it apart, get some zip lock bags to keep all the bolts in. I put all the bolts off the a-arms in one, lable it and seal it. Then you keep going, like engine mount bolts, exhaust, and so on. Make the reasembly very easy as you know what bag to get the bolts out of.
