:eek2: just broke in rebuild with 10:1 wisco, ported & polished head - way more power than I ever expected. Running no base gasket, heard this retards the timing 5 to 7 degrees, would a sparks timing key and a HOT CAMS stage 1 be the way to go? Ride mostly in the woods : somtimes the sand at the BADLANDS in ATTICA IN.

It retards the cam timing, but not the ignition timing. The sparks key only alters the ignition timing. You can't fix one with the other.

And it doesn't retard the timing 5-7 degrees. I'm thinking 5 at the very most. Every 0.020" the head comes closer to the case is about 1 degree of camshaft rotation, which is 2 degrees of crankshaft rotation.

I assume your base gasket is somewhere around 0.035" thick. By eliminating it, you probably have about 4 degree camshaft timing change.

is it worth getting adjustable cam sprocket - or is it just a waste of money?

I dont know what the piston did when I put an 11:1 wiseco in my bike because i did a stage 1 hotcam at the same time and it is amazing. I just put the sparks key in it last night and im gonna test it out today after i get some race gas...

really appreciate the info, I'm going to get the sparks key before the cam.
