300ex Choke Question

I HEARD IF YOU TAKE THE CHOKE OFF YOU GET MORE POWER IS THAT TRUE? IF SO HOW WOULD YOU TAKE IT OFF.

It's a wives tale.

They take off the choke, then complain about loss of low end so they put on one of those power now things to replace the choke they just lost.

Leave in the choke unless you primarily drag race.

On a 300ex, you might see a 0.01 hp increase on the very top, lol. And a power loss from 1/4 - 1/2 throttle. You'd get a bigger gain by taking a crap.

If you're looking for a better caurberator setup for top end power, get a used 400ex carb and swap them out. ;)

just to explain to you what they do is since the choke on those carbs is of the butterfly valve type (a round plate that turns to close off the carb bore) you take it and its control rod out and block the hole that is left, which will make it flow more, slightly more, for what most 300ex's are used for I would do something else with my money and time to make power
