I'm going to say you can run regular Prestone, it really shouldn't matter, you could run straight water worse comes to worse.

I RUN PRESTONE 50/50 PRE MIX.

yes you can, but make sure you use water without all the chemical crap in it... also i'm not sure where you are at if gets really cold, but if not water with water wetter is supposed to work pretty good too... but for as often as you have to change your coolant, $17 really isnt too bad...

Last year during 2hr long races I thought that my Predator was getting too hot. Dealer looked everything over- no problems, they said that I was just worrying too much. I switched to Engine Ice and it never gets close to the same temp. $17 for piece of mind was worth it to me. Later Josh

engine ice works better its proven and we've proven it in our drag cars. Same with Evans. But prestone or any 50/50 premix is fine just don't use straight water or straight antifreeze use a premix it will say right on the container 50/50 premix.

Where can you get this Engine Ice? Local shop, or some where special.

400ex's are oil cooled, that is your oil resivor... It doesn't take coolant... I hope you weren't serious...

Did you mix it right? When i put it in mine it ran excellent, the temperatures dropped by like 20 degrees.

Im pretty sure he's kidding though, lol.

Do NOT run straight water. Only in a dire emergency.

Antifreeze (like Prestone) has two purposes. First is the anti-freezing properties, but it also has a bunch of corrosion-inhibitors in it. This is VERY important. Straight water will corrode your cooling system, you NEED these corrosion inhibitors.

However, unfortunately, antifreeze reduces the the effectivness of your cooling system. Glycol (the stuff that actually resists freezing) is a real killer of thermal transfer.

I can't remember if Engine Ice has anti-freeze in it or not, but I know that Water Wetter does not. Water-Wetter has corriosion inhibitors in it, and also reduces surface tension to provide even BETTER thermal transfer. A water/Water-Wetter combination will run 15 degrees cooler than a water/Antifreeze combination.

However, like I said, Water-Wetter does NOT have protection against freezing, and Engine Ice may be the same way. If your quad is going to be exposed to freezing tempuratures, you MUST use some type of antifreeze.

where do you learn all this stuff, i want links:confused: :D

engine ice is animal friendly so no antifreeze BUT it will resist temps down to -26F

You can look into the "Evans NGP-R or NPG +" coolant. It's not cheap (appx $28.00 / gallon) but it is completely waterless. The boiling point for the NPG+ is 370 F and the NPG-R is 400F. You have to flush the system once or twice with the NPG coolant because you have to have less then 3% water in the system, otherwise it will break down the coolant. This is what makes it a little pricier at first. Because there it contains no H2O there are no air bubbles that form when heated (causing loss of heat transfer) and there is also no pressure build up so there is less stress on your hoses. So on a 90F day outside your machine will run at lower operating temperatures thus allowing it to produce maximum horsepower. If you are just trail riding for fun then this is probably not worth the extra money. But if you want the best for your machine and thus the best performance this is the stuff to get.
