My computer is too old and too slow. Its a compaq model 5150wm. I really dont remember when i bought it.

I dont want to spend a lot on a new one. $500 or less would be nice.

I DON'T need a monitor, just the "computer part of it" and maybe a keyboard.

I also just will be using it for the internet (cable connection), microsoft works, and simple things like that. I dont need a system meant for video games. I use a PS2 for that.

I went to best buy and didnt really like it in the store, i was thinking EBAY would be a good way to get it.

What should i buy??

:scary:

You can get a new Dell for under $500 that would be more than enough for what you need. I think you can buy one without the monitor.

haha, i started drinking beer at lunch that day, then stopped by the beacon on the way home (stayed for a few hours, and somehow passed out/fell asleep in front of the TV at home around 7 pm. I later woke up at about 10:30 or so with a massive headache, so you could say my new years sucked, lol.

What should i buy?

I may post some links on what i've been looking at so far.

I'm likin' the ebay idea though. It seems like that's where the best deals are. I'm not sure though. I'd rather go drive somewhere and get it.

ive always liked dell but i am the most satisfied with the one i built. Its alot easier than i though it would be.

and you can build a strong machine for 500-600.

my bros friend can build you an awsome one for like 300$ and like 150$ to build it, so 450$, and it'll be worth the wait, maybe 3 weeks

Do you have any friends that could help you build one? Use your current case and anything else worth saving and upgrade the rest.

I like Dell, though. Especially the kid who used to do those commercials that got busted for possession:bandit:

yah, my neighbor built a badAZZ! computer a few weeks ago. Im not sure on the specs, but i know its fast, but it does have a 20" flat screen LCD monitor. The whole thing was $600, and if they got the similar setup from dell, they said it would have been $1300+

my next computer will be built

just BE CAREFUL ON EBAY! do you have to have a desktop or are you open to that laptop idea? I know the laptop deal is legit because I bought one and use it for all my schoolwork and even for games. Awesome computer and no other deal I have seen ahs even come close.

best deal in the world IMO. mine has been though alot and still runs perfect. go to ebay and put these nhumbers in the search field:

He clearly stated he just needs the desktop replacement/rebuild. A laptop is NOT the best bang for the dollar when it comes to performance... I dont care what kind of a deal you got. $500 goes much futher in a desktop than a laptop.

Mike,

I just rebuilt my parents computer for X-mas. About $350. Its now a Pentium 4 2.8ghz, 512MB RAM, 40 GIG HD. Its perfect for e-mail and surfing the web (thats all they do with it).

Their computer before was a P2 233, 128MB RAM, 4 gig HD.

Let me know...

ATX style motherboard built for the P4 I bought, P4 2.8ghz processor, 512MB, and a new 40 gig HD - I also had to buy a new power supply. The old one did not have the new connector to power the processor.

Total cost was around $350. The HD was free and I had some rebates on the memory.

Check out this site:

.Computer Geeks (http://www.geeks.com)

On the left side at the top click on desktop computers, they are refurbed but are really cheap.

I have bought several of these from them for various family members and never had a problem.

You have the read the description because some of them do not come with an OS loaded which is usually not a problem for me
