have the mag right in front of me,

06' 450r has 35.56 hp

06' yfz450 has 33.03 hp

they say the yfz450 is better for track use still, has better suspension and handling but lap times are so close-

1:56.09 for the yamaha
1:56.87 for the honda

as always yamaha gets the top pick over the two to choose from:o

IMO dirts wheels favorite is directly proportional to add space.

we did some dyno testing on stock 450ER and YFZ450 and saw much higher #'s on the dyno than what are shown in DW??

i love how 1:56.87 beats 1:56.09 at my tracks, a majority of the time. those hondas are so sneaky arn't they.

I got the issue. Its a joke. I think those HP numbers are way off, too.

well if theyre only putting up in the mid 30's the ltr 450 is deffinetly gonna be better with lt stock and all:o and its putting in around 50:confused:

I doubt 35 hp. Didnt it have 38 last year?

I also doubt the Zuk will put out 50

They always boost HP #`s before bike is released. No way the 450 LTR will put out 50HP. Nice to dream though.

well they said YFZ had 45 on the cover of dirt wheels when it was first released. Also the z400 has 30-32 and 400ex 27-29 so basically they are right there with the 450's lol
but yeah there are a lot of differences in each dyno, im sure the 06 is kickin back around 39 stock, YFZ should have 37 or 38 and the 450 has 3 more HP

Well who won the shootout???

Its funny though because Yamaha won the shootout:rolleyes: but in most every category(motor, comfort, and all the others) the Honda either wins or is real close. But in the end the Yamaha wins:rolleyes:

some one should send dirtwheels a letter that says "when you blow yamaha do you spit or swallow". oh well we know wich is a better quad

yamablaster24

Yeah they say the like the honda ergos, how the yamaha has horrible throttle, how 450r goes through whoops way better and how swingarm gave it more traction and kept front end on ground, how it has more power and has smoother power, but somehow the yamaha wins

Are those hp numbers at the rear wheels or at the crank?

01-04-2006, 08:32 PM
both the 2006 yfz and R should be in the 40's somewhere, im thinking mid 40's, the new suzuki is claiming 50hp, you can read the interview harlen did with doug gust to back this information up, you also have to take into consideration that they will have fuel injection, and plunty of other goodies being they are the last to release a 450, y make it second rate, c what im sayin

You just need to look at the back page of the magazine. If it was an Arctic cat on the back page, it would have won the shoot out, between the 2 450's. I found it funny that most catergories had Honda in the lead but, it lost the shootout.:eek2:

I love my 04, and to think it is improved, makes me want to go get one.

it i bought it today..its a bunch of bs...it says hondas numbers are better but the riders felt more comfortable and better power from the yama...it also say yama is the best buy and if u dont mind buying a $1000 frontend then you can consider the honda:o ..yea them hps are way off they are both in the mid 40's

Doak450r

thse numbers arent far off and no stock quad is over 40 hp besides a zilla

i think the only thing harding back the 450r just that lil bt is its suspension. its needs to be adjusted some and i guess from what they say it needs different a arms too and it would be a lot better then

but that just my opinion

the new issue of Quad magazine (the best atv mag out, IMO), they tested the new 450ER, they loved it.

The Actual RWHP # for the two are:

06'TRX-38-39rwhp

06'YFZ-40-41rwhp

ATVriders.com and I did this test. Results will be posted soon. Also tested in the comparison 06'Raptor 700, and 06' Polaris Predator.

The dirtwheels shoot-out hp numbers are taken at the rear wheels (didn't you guys see the picture of the quads hooked up to the dyno?? ), so they are right where they should be. At the crank both are right around 40hp.

I read it last nite. Was a pretty good article up until the conclusion. They said that by adding up the different categories, the Honda would be the winner but they felt like the Yamaha was better. Kinda strange.

I think this guys is right, i mean he is a dyno company. When the YFZ came out they where advertising 42HP stock on the cover of DirtWheels. Dirtwheels is a joke its just a HUGE catolog for parts and other companies. They need to get on the same level as Dirtbike Magazine. they have better tech articles and how to's.

Hmm.. Suzuki must have gotten the advertisment dollars for March. Test showing both the Honda and Yamaha about 5hp too low.. then the Suzuki showing up at 45hp the next month.. seems awful suspicious to me.. lol. We'll just have to wait and see.. lol.

Well if Dirtwheels said it it must be true:ermm:

01-06-2006, 04:05 PM
yamaha riders already know the ltr450 will win the shootouts so they are making up things like suzuki pays them the most to do it... lol

While honda riders say the same about yamaha...

yawnnn, so much fighting..

o well, we all know who to believe when it comes to quads, ourselves, end of story :macho

Here's the way I see it, Dirt Wheels for all the ads, and some of their projects. Quad magazine for their tech and stories.

I think Dirtwheels tested the California models during that comparison. I think this because the Califoria models are much more restrictive do to emmision laws. That is why they are usually a couple of horsepower short. Just my opinion.

I just bought and rode my very first quad, which just happens to be a brand new TRX450R. I like, Ilike it alot. I also read the article in dirt wheels cuz I was gonna buy either the YF or the TRX. and I couldnt make up my mind. Well I ended up getting the TRX cuz it sounded like the lesser monster buy their article. Plus I know that if I do regular maint. itll run for ever. Mind you this is the FIRST quad I ever rode. After about 30 mins of ridding to get the feel of the bike/shifting, a dude on a YF aks me if I wanna race him. Well I'm not too bright so I say yes. We are side by side till 4th gear when my front wheels came up. I had enough at that point. I rode w/that dude for about 10 miles more. There really isnt a gap between the bikes. I was out for the first time and he couldnt lose me except when i stalled the bike(im a noob). Im kinda new at this but I think my bike even climbed hills quicker.
