I'm running a 250x w/mega max with 8 discs- 14/38 sprockets-and a Lectron carb - and have way too much top end. Looking for some ideas how to bring it down a few notches. I'm diggin the top end but have no power to do hill climbs. Any thoughts would be great .

i have the same pipe and have plenty of power to climb most hills, does yours need jetted?? that could lose some power, if that doesnt help, u can take out some discs to get more low end

change jetting or try adjusting air/fuel mixture on carb. and go to a 13 tooth front sprocket

do above.. and if you want more bottom and have some cash layin around, go with a higher comp piston.

If you're actually talking about too much top speed, and not enough low end power, drop your front sprocket back down to a 13 tooth.

You'll be better off with a 13/38 gear set and increasing your rev limit for top speed.

You get the best of both worlds. ;)

For woods riding, when my 300ex was jsut pipe/filter/jet I ran 12/36 gearing and loved it in tight woods riding.

after owning about 5 different 300ex's over the years,i have found out first hand that they love higher compression.wiseco has a 12 to 1 for your 250x,it'll make a difference.:)

I'm running a high compression (12-1) with a TC national cam and heavy duty everything- I just took off my DG krome power and put that fmf mega max on--My lectron carb has no jets--so I can't change them-I'll try taking out some discs and put a 13 tooth on the front---

it has nothing to do with your pipe!just change your sprockets and you will be ok!

Change your gearing.;) The most common gearing that is most recommended is 14/36.

that would be more topend speed gearing....not lowend power for hill climbing :macho

My mistake guys, if I were you I would change the front sprocket up a tooth and the rear up one or two teeth.

May look at a low to mid range cam (I think the TC National is a high rev cam, I could be very wrong though, lol. I don't know a lot about cams. I run a MX cam in my 330. Has a perfect feel to me.)

Since you have a high compresison motor (I thought you were mostly stock), go with the stock gearing for good low end pull. 13/38

Play with the disks. Less for bottom end. More for top end.

if your talking about too much top end power and not top speed, what size is your lectron carb? that could very well be your issue if its much bigger than stock

Then he would be running 15/40. a 15 tooth won't go on without modification.

I agree. It's hard to tell if he wants less top speed and more acceleration, or less power up top and more down low. Power curve vs. Gearing.
