i live in quebec city and when temperature is below 5 C,
my 400ex '00 is very hard to start.

i put choke full close, 3 snap throttle shop ( for accelaration pump)
and start.
the engine run but if i not put little throttle, the engine stall because idle too slow.

if i speed the idle for not stall, when engine hot the idle is 3,000rpm

when engine is hot, no problem

I have just k&N filter and main jet 162 ( plug check ok)
if i change slow jet 38 for 42

this is stop my problem????

tank for all

scuse for my english, i speark french

Your english is just fine.

Do you have an aftermarket rev box? Take it off if you do. Upping the pilot to a 40 should help as well.

its hard to start because its cold. The oil is cold, and the gas is cold. once you get it running, you should let it idle for a little bit to let the oil warm up. Otherwise you run the risk of damaging things.

also what would help is to make sure your battery is in tip top shape. a weak battery would make it harder to start also. increasing the pilot (slow jet) to 42 would help alot also. Lastly, run a lighter oil or better yet a synthetic, it will be thinner and turn over better. Cold thick oil is hard to turn over on.
