im getting ready to put in new axle bearings and seals on my ol 400ex for the first time and was wondering if anyone had any tips for a first timer.

My first time it took me the longest to get the axle nut off. It was froze tight. Also remember its reverse threads. Bearings might be tough to get out of the carrier also. heat it up pretty good and ya should be able to knock em out.

ok i got it all apart and was able to get the bearings out on one side. butt the other side all thats left is the outside race and it wont come out. i heated it up and even tried a chissel on it. nothing works that i have tried. any advise ? im at a stand still.

put some oil on it then heat it up, it worked for me

its finaly done. what a job! had to grind the bearing race off and knock it out. butt finaly i got it and its all back together. and now i see i need back brake pads.

How do you tell when your axle bearings are startingto go?

your axle will have some play in it.
