I have a brand new Recon that I maybe road 45 minutes around the yard. It is pretty cold here in Wisconsin.about 0 to 15 deg. The last 2 times I went to take it out I warmed it up for about 10 minutes and went to go in first gear . The clutch would slip pretty bad. After a while it would finally start to grab Is this because of the cold? Has anyone ever had this happen to there auto clutch quad. I owned a 250ex for a year and beat the piss out of it in every weather and never had this happen. Do I maybe have to change to a lighter grade oil like 5W30 or 0W30? Right now it has 10W40.

Sounds like it just needs adjusted. 10w-40 should be fine even in really cold weather. You can adjust the clutch at the front of the engine case. It should say increase-decrease. It was probably not adjusted right when it was assembled at the dealer.

Make sure you aren't using automotive oil. It has polymers that will make a wet clutch slip. I'd almost bet money that that is the problem. Put in some 10w30 motorcycle oil that is safe for a wet clutch and you should be fine.

It should have Honda oil in it already. I just bought it 2 weeks ago and the dealer assembled it. they told me I should maybe try thinner oil. They said 10W40 might be too thick in the winter.

Just take it back to the dealer. If it's only 2 weeks old let them find the problem.

I agree that it's hard to find a good, honest, reputable(sp?) dealer for any honda/yamaha/kawasaki product. They are lying f*cks. Luckily I understand everything and they can't f*ck me over.
