i just got a almost new 2001 yellow 400ex and its in EXCELLENT condition, i had a 2000 before this one and i had ordered a 416 kit for it but then i got the new one so now im gonna sell the red one but my question is should i put the 416 in the yellow or sell it because my dad is scared to mess up a brand new bike. all i have herd is good things about the 416 kit but that is why i am asking all of you. IS THE 416 KIT RELIABLE and will it last me a while? around 1 year or 2. Any feedback will be appreciated because i really dont know what to do.

Big bore kits are reliable up to a 440.

Its up to you if you want to do the work to install it and such. Maybe you would want to wait until you can get a cam, porting, valve work , ect.

first of all why did you buy a 2001 400ex when you allrready had a 2000 400ex you chold of saved money and had one bad 400ex if you wanted yellow new plastic isnt that much anyways i an currantly having a JE 416 piston kit put in my 400 ex from what the guy told me it is very reliable aslong as it it is taken care of he said it is a really good setup and to run V P 110 race gas in it because it burns cooler and has led in it that will help lubercate it better my 400 is getting a bigger cam upgraded valvetrain and some other stuff id say go on and put it in

Have you (or your dad) considered getting a higher compression piston (stock bore) rather than having the cylinder bored out? Not only will this be less time consuming, but it should save you some money. With the extra money saved, you may want to get a cam while you are in the engine.

But since you already have the 416 kit, it is hard for me to say not to do it, since I have done it and I am very happy with it. I feel the higher compression piston was the trick, though!:D

Note: I have not tested it with the aftermarket cam yet, but I am still happy with the performance gain of just the piston (and gaskets).:)

BTW, I do not understand how you went from a 2000 400 to a 2001.... But anyway, that is a different subject.

You want your 416 kit to last a yr or 2?

It will probable last 10 yrs. Its just a lil old 416? no high compression, no aggressive cam? no NOS or Super charger.

I don't have to have a 416, to know that tiny motor mod ain't gonna hurt nuttin.

Comeback when your running a 416 with 13:1 compression, a huge cam, porting and a 41mm FCR. Than we will tell you YES its possible it will blow up in 5 yrs,.
