Well, my dad is considering letting me get rid of my 300 and move up to a 400. He doesnt really pay any attention to all the new quads and what they go for, etc. but he says he would like to see me have something that has reverse. I would also like to try racing too(mx) to see if i like it/can handle it. I dont know whether to go for a 400ex or z400, i know they arent a whole deal different. However, it seems like if you dont have a z400 w/ a gusseted frame, and you jump, you are going to break it. So is it a big deal to tear a quad down and gusset it, or should i save some time and buy a 400. I just dont know?

umm...the Z400s frame was fixed after the 03 I think. So if I were you Id get the Z, the 400ex is so outdated right now.

Go with the z400, the 400ex's are way way too outdated and the Z400 has more power and it has a better reputation, compared to the 400ex now and the z400 has good looks and is just as reliable as the 400ex and the frame thing was fixed a while ago.

also the z400 is soo much more smootheri rode a z250 and a z400 and the throttle reponse and the overall smoothness is like 100% quality imo.

I rode a friends stock 400ex it was a 2004 and I felt like i was riding a F****** rocket there was so much turbulence and it had soo much vibration in the handle bars, it wasn't smooth at all imo. It also felt slow .

Go with the 400ex. Those things are one of the best built quads ever. Compared to the other quads the 400ex parts are cheap and there are tons of aftermarket parts.

I know their the same quad, but I'd get the DVX I think it looks way better.

if i had the choice, i would say New a Z, but used i would get a 400ex. teh EX is just more reliable IMO. i like the z, but like my EX as well, but i say go with the Z, more competitive with less work.

Yea I think I will go with the Z. Im dealing with gun32boarder and his z. He has plus 3 arms and tcs shocks on it so i asked how much w/o that stuff and hipers. He said 2700, I offered 2500 for it which gives me a quad w/ a pipe, ac pro pegs, probably a couple other things but no front shocks and no rubbers front and rear. Is it a good deal or not?

id tell him to go F**** himself for not including those shocks and other stuff for a small $200 difference. or just pay the extra $200. $2700 is a good deal for it with those shocks and stuff unless its really beat up and ragged out

save up some more money and get a 04 450r, you can pick one up now for $4000. but if you insist on a 400 get a ex. RIDE RED.

I would go with the z-400. The 400ex motor might be more relable, but the z-400 motor is still pretty damn good, and you will like the extra power that it has. And as Gust as shown it can be made to be comettative with the new 450's.

so why is the reason 400ex is outdated  and also any 400 ( no matter what brand ) can be built to be competitive to 450's. Just funny to me that there are more 400ex's still racing today than any other 400cc quad :macho

Well, nvm it doesnt matter anymore. I talked to my dad about it today and he says he'll revisit the issue in the spring:rolleyes: :( So basically I have spent a bunch of money on my 300ex when i really should have saved it and bought a 400. And i feel really dumb now because I probably wasted gun32boarder's time. Well it could be worse i guess.:ermm:

well a 400ex only has 2hp les than a z.
and its probly cuz it has higher compreshion.
the only thing the z has better than a 400ex is it water cooled the 400ex isnt.
