Dose a steering stabilizer really help?

A steering stabilizer makes your shocks work.Think of it as the stabilizer holds the front end steedy while the shock /a arm travels up and down.Without the stabilizer there would be a sideways motion with the wheels/tires trying to pull out of you hands on a large bump.

steering stabilizer is well worth the money you will notice a difference when you put it on. The biggest difference is going back to a bike that doesn't have one, it will feel like it is all over the place.:)

Best $150 I ever spent. I won't ride without one again. ;)

I installed one, and it was harder than heck to turn my front wheels. I could only go a couple laps and I just couldn't turn the darn thing. I have a gibson rebuildable that I don't use. Is it possible that my clamp at the top is to tight? Also, does anyone have any pics of how a gibson or denton is installed, they look the same. And does anyone have theirs mounted to the front behind the bumper?

dober250R:

I also have a rebuildable Gibson stabilizer. Here is a pic of how I mounted it (I think you can click on the pic to enlarge it).

It's not the best picture, but I mounted it to the front frame cross brace. This was about the only way I could mount it without the gas tank hitting it or it being in the way of something else. It seems to work fine. There is no binding or difficult steering, and I have the dampening set to the stiffest setting.

yz440e:

Yes, I think a steering dampener does help out quite a bit.

Colby said it right. Its something you don't really notice until you take it off and your steering feels like you have worn out tie rod ends. It take all the twitch out of the steering.

I believe they have an adjustment knob on them? you might have it turned up all the way?

i have a steering stabilizer off of a volkwagon, with a james lucky rebuild kit.it mounts back by the bottom motor mount and then to the steering stem.
it's cheaper and works better in my opion.

I had it adjusted all the way to the soft setting. And that's where I had mine mounted, right underneath the gas tank. I'm going to try to loosen my top clamp and rig it up somewhere else. I know it should help, i'll figure it out. My top clamp seems really tight.

once you ride with one, you will never go back. put one on your bike, ride it for awhile, then ride your buddies bike without one and you will very quickly want to return to your bike. they take the twitchness out of your steering and reduce bump steer and fatigue.

well with 26 "yes" votes and only 1 "no" votes I guess I am looking for a steering stabilizer. Any one got one they are not using or selling?
