Ok, I just bought some new rear brake pads: EBC Sintered, Part #FA84R. I tried to put them in last night, but they seem too thick. I couldn't get the caliper back on over the brake rotor. Yes, I did compress the piston, and yes I do have a block off plate. I followed the instructions from the manual, and from a post on this site explaining how to change the pads. Can the piston be pushed back all the way flush with the caliper? If it can, then I don't know why I can't do it. I even disconnected the brake line, and took off the block off plate so that I could squeeze the piston back. Anyone else have this problem? At first I was thinking that I got the wrong pads. Thanks for your help.

I don't know about your part number, but lets assume that they are the correct pads. The only trick I know is to back off the brake line resevoir cap. This should easily allow the brake piston to fully retract.

You stated that you removed the brake line.... And you still have a problem?

all ive ever had to do is take off the cap for the brake res.( where the fluid goes in) but you said something about you took the brake line off? use a c-clamp and press the piston in,.. it should go easy.

that is the correct part number for ebc pads for a 400ex.

Ok, thanks for the help. But, I sure thought that I had the piston pushed all the way in. Will the piston push all the way in untill it's flush with the caliper??If it can, then I should have no problems putting the new pads on. I guess I will go buy a c-clamp.

I think I had a similar problem last time I had to put on new pads. I had the piston in all the way and it still wouldn't go on. Come to find out, all that was needed was the caliper needed moved on the mounting pins, I had to push the caliper towards the swing arm.

Thanks for the help. I borrowed a C-clamp from a friend tonight, and I got the pads in easily. It worked a lot better than trying to pry it back with a frickin screwdriver!

glad it worked out...when you pry on the piston it most likely will not push it in straight, so it binds up.. using the c-clamp makes it ALOT easier...
