Damned if it's obvious and heck if the owners manual illustrates where it is - can someone shed some light on where this cotton-picking thing is? Owner servicable (I hope)?

Thx

on my 300ex it is on the right side and i know on most honda modles it is a round cover with 3 bolts just look for a round cover on the motor (most likely on the right) and that should be it, hope this helped
good luck!

You my friend are wrong. It doesnt have to have an oil filter. There is no rule that states that an engine has to have an oil filter. It just means that you have to watch your oil more closely and be more on the up and up on maintenance. If you put an engine in a clean room the motor would run fine with no filter and without oil changes. Just add oil when it needs it and you would be fine. If I am not mistaken the army done some tests like these a few years back.

And no the 250EX/Recon does not have an oil filter. I think it has some type of screen that needs to be cleaned out every now and then, but no filter.

It has a screen on the oil pump pick-up.
