Shock Valving MX to XC

I want to upgrade my rear shock to a zps type shock. I've been combing though ebay and forums for a good used pep, works, or axis. I'm wondering if it's gonna make any difference at all if I buy a fully adjustable shock that's valved for MX when I ride XC. Seems to me all I'd have to do is put the right springs on, turn some screws, and I should be good to go... right???

well it not quite that easy the internal valving is going to be different but you can do what you are saying it just wont be as soft for xc .

Don't listen to him! He's running 1987 Suzuki LT230 Sport shocks on his YFZ frame with a LT185 Motor! LOL

When i bought my 450r, it had axis shocks set up for mx, but after some adjustments, I was able to get them pretty close to what i want for xc
