Is the 88-89 style set the one with the thinner foam or the taller foam, i know i had heard certain years were thinner foamed than the other.

not sure about the foam but the front of the seat has the plastic mounting embedded in it.

86 87 has a metal one

you can buy a desert seat that is basially new seat foam and a new cover i think that is thicker much thicker that works with the stock seat pan

But as far as stock ia m not sure
