thumb. Twist is for motorcycles. It works horrible on quads.

A friend of mine built this Shee, 5" over stock swinger, Toomey pipes blah blah blah, really fast death trap, put a twist on it, a few days before our sand dune trip he shatters his collar bone and breaks some more stuff to. Any how he asked me to take the shee to the dunes to see how it worked out, I had a horrible time, it was my first trip to the dunes, and with a twist on a 2 smoke. I hated it, ruined the whole trip.

switched to twist probly 5 years ago, after being on a thumb for 10 years before that. took a day to get used to, havent looked back since. i think im faster on a twister. i can drive into and out of corners harder and faster since my thumb is wrapped around the grip. i have had twisters on 75+ HP banshee with a -2 swinger, and my 310R. no an issue. you just have to ride agressive. if your layed back at all when you ride, yes they are trouble...

thumb for mx tracks, twister for all other applications. Everytime I come down off a jump, I twist the dang throttle. I love the twisty for dunes and free riding.

I was a dirtbike rider before i switched to quads and i first used a twist throttle on my quad. But i mostly trail ride, climb hills, on the track a little, but the twist just made me feel like the quad was controlling me. I didn't feel like i had enough control. It definetly feels different on a bike than on a quad! I ride in a big sand pit and the sand gets into the twist throttle and your throttle sticks and you wreck. I don't like a twist on a quad.

pretty much..

when i got my first bike when i was 9 i got arm pump alot and my dad bought me a twist. ever since then ive ridden on a twist throttle. its easier for me to move around and manuover(sp?) than it is on a thumb. i like the idea of my entire hand being wrapped around the bar also.

seems like to me that most people that try a twist throttle dont give it enough time. they go into it thinking thier not going to like it then they dont give them selves time to adjust.

i like the thumb. Ive had a twist before I liked it except on hills. LTZ400ridr your right if people try it for more than one day they will get used to the twist. I just dont feel comfortable w/ a twist had one on mine for about a month and I just didnt feel in control w/ it.

it sounds to me like they just dont know how to ride, lol. if you are riding in the proper attack stance. you are up over the bars, and your hands are not pulling straight back on the grips, you are also holding onto the bike the most with your legs. if you dont grip the bike with your knees, and you ride sitting back, yeah a twister will be impossible.

twist throttle all the way. give it acouple of rides and you'll love it. no more thumb cramps. plus the girls hate them so they never want to borrow your quad.

Thumb is alright, but I like twist and want it on my quad

but If I ever get a 2-stroke again I would deffinately get twist

I think it depends on what kind of rider you are agressive=twist and more laid back rider=thumb

I just want to try twist out because my thumb would be wore out after a 2 hour race but lately I have used grip tape on my thumb throttle and it seems to help

i had a twist when i first got my 400x and after a month i couldn't stand it any more, even more so after cliping a small tree enough to sprain my wrist:ermm:

thumb all the way!

12-22-2005, 08:29 PM
thumb... it would kinda suck if your falling of the back of your quad going through woops cuz your hanging on for dear life and at the same time your pulling back on the bars giving it full throtle

my thumb doesnt seem to get tired, my arms get tired before my thumb does...and they equally get tired, so its not causing it.
Feel like i have so much more control eitha thumb...but ive only ridden a twist for prob an hour total, so i havent given it that much of a chance. It was on my friends yz125, and everytime i turned, my hand twisted and i gassed it lol

I think I'm gonna try a twist out on my quad, cuz I ride dirtbikes a lot too, so I think it'd be cool to have it on my quad too, my only concern is when on a quad you get kicked around a whole lot more, like into a choppy section with braking bumps, especially in a turn, u get kicked all over the place, so I'm concerned that I may grab more throttle then I want, but I''ll give it a shot.
