take off your hood and its the only plug with 4 wires. if your looking at the front of your quad it is on the left of the ignition. i cut mine last night.

so is it like the one that has 3 seperate sets of wires that go strait across the front there
then it is the left one of those right?

yes right behind the light that little box is the ignition box and u just snip the green wire on the left on the only plug with 4 wires in it. let me know if it still runs right after you try it lol. i havent ridden mine but im gonna see how much of a difference it is maybe tonight

I'm not 100% sure where the wire is, but this is a pic I took of my 06 when I first got it, with the hood off. Maybe somebody can point it out.

So all you have to do is cut it? Wow.

12-22-2005, 08:48 PM
Is the difference noticable?

Burnt12

after you snip it do you have to adjust anything else or just cut and go?

well how come you cant do it on the 04 or 05. thats there for a reason i hope someone looked in to this idea before they went and told everyone to cut this green wire. i just dont want any one messing up there expensive toy to save 100$ to do it the right way ..

Well there is supposively something like that on the LT-R too. That isnt even out yet and we know? So i guess it wasnt an accident

its the cheaper way of getting an extra 1000 rpms. the 06 HRC KIT COMES with a new plug that doesnt have the green wire at all so basically when you cut that wire its the same as buying the new plug. o and i rode it yesterday and god i love this bike ha.

yea u can tell a difference...i cut mine and never hit the rev limiter now...it changes the power curves too

well did it help with start up??? It is supose to help the 06 start faster.. anyone notice it??

i would think the limiter is there for a reason.id rather hit the limiter then over rev and damage the motor.

Do u think the guys at the shop would look at that if i blew it up as it would void the warranty?

motors are built to max out at a certain RPM.if you cut the wire your going to go past that limit, puttting your engine through abuse that isnt going to get you anywhere.changing a cam that is specifically gound to run at a higher rpm may warrent you needing a higher limit but thats what aftermarket ignitions are for. if you cut that wire you have no limit. there will be nothing to protect your engine after that certain RPM. i wouldnt tough it, practice for an extra hour each time you ride to make yourself fater.

Oh my God !! You guys are the biggest pansies ever!! The HRC kit eliminates this wire with a plug harness prvided in the kit!! Do you think Honda would remove the green wire it would hurt the engine:huh

I have done this to 4 quads already and no freaking problems..

HONDA will find a way out of warranty if possible. If you bring in a grenaded motor with that wire cut you will in deep. I would remove the wire from the molex plug carefully if you wanted to do it. If something happens put the wire back into the plug then take it in.

wow you guys are wierd. the hrc kit has the new plug with the wire removed and an extra 1000 rpms is not going to do anything. its just making it more like the crf 450r dirtbike.

XCRACER26
12-24-2005, 08:52 PM
cut the wire where the dealer wont look and cover that up with black electrical tape, and look at the specs on the dirtbike and you will see that its not going to harm the motor.

not questioning your knowledge one bit but why would honda sell a kit that has a thing that removes the wire anyways. Its a knock off and honda thought they were being smart by selling a 350.00 kit to eliminate the green wire when something as simple as snipping a wire to gain an extra 1000 rpm...me personally id go for it...

TCracin440ex
12-25-2005, 07:35 AM
pretty much when you buy the hrc kit your paying 350 bucks for a cam and headpipe because that cdi mod is just usless imo and a waste when you can snip the thing and do the exact same thing

yeah thats what im saying...honda sells a kit to do it but why buy it when u can do it for free...imo the rev limiter kicks in to early in 2nd and 3rd gear..since i cut the wire i dont have to worry about it

its kinda like downloading music for free. you still end up with the same thing just its free with a couple of viruses(or problems with motor) if you dont have good blocker (or not carefull in this case).
its free and you still get what you wanted.

comparing apples to oranges there buddy

d/lin free music has nothing to do with cutting a wire that honda just elimates anyways with the hrc kit...its just we have wised up and figured out hondas "350.00" secrete for more RPM

I dont have a picture of the plug but I've seen the plug installed on a couple '06s. It eliminates the wire just like everyone has stated already. Same effect as cutting the wire! I didnt notice a power difference (as far as curves) but the added RPMs is very nice because I like to rev my motor plus i'm running a HC Stage2 thats a mid-top end cam (as most of you know)....really rips arse in the upper RPMs so I benefited from the wire mod.

When the bike was stock though.....it felt as if the bike fell on its face when reved that high w/out having a cam to make power at that high of an RPM. In stock form, I'd say dont cut the wire....just my opinion. Now once I installed the cam, wow....it really rips up top w/out any loss down low.

You still have a rev limiter, its just higher....similiar to the CRF ignition mod everyone did on the 04/05 TRXs...

NO YOU CANT DO THIS TO 04s and 05s......
