I don't intend to bash anything here. I believe every quad has it's place and rider. I am however, curious as to the differences between the 06 450R and the 700 Raptor. Which is fastest, lightest, most manueverable, etc? In what cases is the 450R better than the Raptor and vice-versa?

Thanks for your comments in advance.

The raptor is faster (not for sure, but should be) only in a straight line. The R will kill it anywhere else. The Rs lighter, better suspension, and lower COG.

i would guess that the 700 would be better suited for the dunes and the R for the track

for having 250cc more they aren't fast enough... my 06 has been stomping them at the local dunes... so its just if you want that oh so special throttle response that you get from EFI... but thats about it

have you raced any 05 or 04 450r's?

A friend of mine has a '05 450r and he recently raced a Raptor 700 on a hooking dirt road. They raced a couple times and every time my buddy would jump him out of the hole, but the 700 would sneak up and pass him. The guy on the 450 can ride and I can hardly ever get him, even on a faster bike. I would think the 700 and the '06 450 would be pretty close in a drag, but I didn't race him since I suck at dragging.

The 700 is a much more comfortable ride. It feels like riding in a Cadillac instead of the Ferrari 450r. If I was a casual rider I'd go for the 700, but if you wanna race get the 450r. The 450 is lighter and more maneuverable. Get one with the HRC kit and there's no doubt you'd wax a 700.

well the 700 puts out .6 more hp then a 450r but weighs a good deal more.
It is FI so the the response shall be good but who would ever find a 450r not to be responsive??? not me.

They put out 40hp, are heavy, sit higher..blah blah...

For a trail rider the 700 may be good but if you want any type of air its 450.

With the HRC kit the 700 is all done.

put the gyt-r kit in the 700 and the 450 is right back were it started

The 686 has a butt load more torque than the 450. The "700" is very bottled up in stock form, there needs to be some tweeking on the fuel injection and a little uncorking. I like my R but my cousins built 03 686 is a really nice bike and with the "700's" new suspension it gets that much better. They are definately in different catagories but anyone could easily be happy with either one.

it all comes down to the rider. The difference between the machines is fairly close.

I still ride red and always will...;)

In a drag race my brother won on his 450r(2006) I guess it is because of the 12:1 compression ratio piston

the 06 450r's are very quick but I am not sure how long it would take for a 700 to catch up with it since it is not as quick but has more cc's

Hahaha. "My 450r is faster than your bike"... childish. the raptor just scares the **** outta you guys. Talking down the Yamaha's is getting really really old, don't you think?

I believe that it would be really close, possibly the R would win. When my 05 450r had just a slip-on pipe ( HMF) and was jetted correctly, I could beat them pretty good ( One bone stock, one with the baffle out of the pipe), so I would imagine stock the 06 would hold up well. As for more top-end, nope, the ones I raced had the exact same top end. Now, I would agree that rider may have been a big part, but I raced more than one guy on each of the 700's ( Friends too). I would always leave him off the line, and he couldn't catch up, that is, unless I messed up and hit a bumpy part in the road, he would catch up and we would stay side by side.

On another note, the Raptor is definately a torque MONSTER. He could take off in 3rd gear with no problem and race, or, as usual, launch it in second and get some pretty good speed up at the start. Wheelies were no problem either, of course. A very fun bike, definately much improved over the old Raptors IMHO. So, take it how you want, this is just how my personal experience against the 700 turned out.:D

And to the guy who said that the Raptors just scare the crap out of us, I hope you were joking.......
