I am buying tires for my 400ex. I am wondering what 18" tires are for and what 20" tires are for. I hear that 18" is for MX and 20" is for trails. Is this right? I am buying ITP MXR4 tires by the way. Any opinions on tire choices will be appreciated! Thanks in advance for your help!

18 inch tires are usually for mx yes and 20 i have saw been used for trails and mx if u r going to be riding trails i would suggest 22s the mxr4 r a great mx tire but they r soo soft they usually wear out quickly so a good tire for mx tht would last longer would be like the kenda klaw mx

I ride trails about once every other month and I dont ride hard like you guys do in the trails. :) So would the MXR4 last in those conditions? Also do any of you have pictures with either the ITP XCR tires on your 400ex or the MXR4s on your 400ex, thanks.

Personally, I would go with a Maxxis tire for trail riding. The tread is harder. Do the MXR4s come in a 4-ply? You definitely don't want a 2-ply unless you want to constantly be fixing flats.
