what is the real perpose of them? are they really just for dress up?

:huh :huh they are too direct air to your engine and oil cooler, which makes your engine cooler, which makes more horsepower

Note: I do think they help direct additional air to the engine, I also feel they are a cool looking "dress up" item too.
