all depends on the rider. You stick a good rider on both on a track. They will keep up through the turns, but as soon as you hit a straight away, they will pull away. You can sink thousands into a 400 and it will only be able to hang with a 450 not beat them.

you need a good cam. also what compression is it? If you have a full exhaust, cam, and a good 416 you will definitly hang with them.

i don't think you have enough done yet. i have smoked a few already. but the ones that have stuff done to them, depending on what ,really give a run for the money. they are mean machines. but i love mine more. becuase i made it fast and did all the work myself except for the boring of the jug for the bigger sleeve and the valve cutting for the bigger valves.

First of all i will put my 400ex up against any sorry @^$ 450 and will make it look like a 250 recon. The 450 only has bigger geared trans and more comp. Flat out the 450 will get the stock 400 on top end. Out of the hole well lets just say the 450 is glad that it has those tall gears. And to all the 450 faithful the 04 or earlier models will keep up with even a banshee on the track. The 400 puts everything it has to the ground may not have the power but you can have all the power you want but if you cant get it on the ground well you SOL. Ride 400 or dont ride at all.

are you talking?

Its gonna take one haulin 400ex motor to stick with 450r. My 416ex full MX port Wiseco high comp hot cam stage 2 piston with HMF, aluminum airbox and kn filter jetted perfect would get beat by stock 450 and i would top out at 60 with 18's and they just pulled farther and farther away. Just aint no competition

it mostly depends on the rider, but you can keep up with 450s.

u might be able to keep up in bottom end. but once u get to top end the 450 would crush u

Id say on a track you'd have to have a good amount of parts on it to beat one or just be a heck of a rider. But if your talkin cross country you can easily do it if your a fairly good woods rider.
