Pappy
06-29-2002, 03:32 PM
the racers had to go beside this building...then down the ramp. they raced through the parking lot , i saw 2 quads lose a rear tire on the turn. that asphalt is rough !

Pappy
06-29-2002, 04:19 PM
oh yeah, he even got a shirt signed. all the pro racers were cool. i didnt get to meet yokely, but the parking and layout at wisp was far from perfect. i saw some sweet quads there

Pappy
06-29-2002, 04:22 PM
i dunno who one!!! i ran into a friend i havent seen since the mid 80's and we were jabberin and i missed who won!! the layout at wisp was weird and if you were'nt right at the finish line you couldnt hear the loudspeakers.

Pappy
06-29-2002, 04:35 PM
this pic is from the ski lift. the quads had to shoot through the snowboarders area! it was cool ...they even got to rip up some parts of the putting green and golf course!

06-29-2002, 06:34 PM
ballance won, yokley got 3rd and i forget who got second. chris borich hit a curb and whipped out on the asphlat. I heard someone say he broke his hand. i got 9th in the utility stock class. I was like 17 min behind the leader at the end. my dad said i coulda won but i sliced a sidewall of his blackwaters and it took about 20 min to fix. It took a can of fix a flat 4 plugs and a little co2 cartrige to fill it. i have some pics that show how steep that hill was i will try to get them on.

400ex127 when did you get there? did you see the guy that stalled on a 400 on that big hill? and there was another guy who almost ran everyone over.

all I can say is therewere a **** of alotta rocks at that place

Pappy
06-29-2002, 07:05 PM
i went friday night and saturday. i knew there would be rocks...that entie area is loaded with em. i dunno what was up with the aspahlt section. i was talkin to balance and the quads were like 2 feet from his trailer! the layout was weird there! all the pics at the aspahlt section...balance is standin right beside me...it was cool

250rmike
06-29-2002, 07:29 PM
they had the pros go by the pits. we didnt even go by them we cut to the road before them. would have been cool to go by em though. did you see borich crash? did you see a red sportsman? if you did that was me i was the only one there

Pappy
06-29-2002, 07:31 PM
i saw a red utility with a flat....the kids dad was bend...no hammering it back in place. was that u?

Tommy 17
06-29-2002, 07:42 PM

that hill in that pic looks step.... i would like to hit it about 3rd bottom and i would fly the whole way up it... no problem...

Pappy
06-29-2002, 07:45 PM
that hill was very long...and steep but it was even. no wash outs etc. i wasnt that impressed with how fast the riders were going...maybe i will try one!!lol!!

250rmike
06-29-2002, 08:04 PM
yea that was me. I sliced the sidewall on a rock 3/4 of the way around and it lasted pretty much until i got back and could bum some air from some others riders to get back to my truck. it lasted the rest of the day fine

Pappy
06-29-2002, 08:06 PM

he didnt mind he is cool like that. i just owe him a new tire now. haha at least i gave him a ride up the mountain damn i saw people making other people walk now thats just wrong. did you see that guy with the exscursion trying to make it up where i was parked with the huge trailer. we thought he was gonna take everyone below him out. he would get up half way lock up his breaks and slide back down

Teufel
06-30-2002, 09:09 AM
I was there but only made one lap, lost nut off of swing arm bolt and it backed out ..also hat flat at the start.. Thought the track was awesome rough as ****. Everyone was worried about the hill on the ski slope and it was gravey.....those short rocky ones were a pain. See you at the next one.

06-30-2002, 09:35 AM
Kenny im glad you had a good time. im happy you didnt get arrested or cought stealing stickers and shirts ;)

Hey 400ex127, sorry I missed ya. We were pitted way over on the right hand side of the mountain. I figured you wouldn't be able to find us. Wisp was one of the best GNCC's I've run in about 6 years! Alot of the people complained about the rocks but I had a blast even after doing a hole lap with one of my front tires halfway off the rim. (I'll be mounting up a set of carbon fiber bead locks monday morning!):D I got some pics of the morning race I'll post tomorrow.

Pappy
06-30-2002, 09:46 AM
i looked every where for ya jeff!!lol!! i think i will join ya in the woods...it looked like a blast! we walked to the track from the hotel and wandered around alot. it was a nice place except that the fairground split thing...lil weird !

hey matrix...heres your shirt!

06-30-2002, 09:52 AM
thanks kenny. it looks SWEET!

250rmike
06-30-2002, 09:54 AM
i was looking for ya too jeff but there were so many traiklers like the one you described i gave up haha. where were you on the mountain. we were on the face the big wide center trail that flatened out alittle that the quads went through. it was a great gncc. you have to admit the rocks got anoyying after a while. even william yokley said that. they might not have it next year. the announcer said it may be a once in a lifetime expereince

Pappy
06-30-2002, 09:59 AM
i saw the head guy of wisp...he was bent about the grass gettin chewed up.!! but what do ya expect...it is a quad and this will happen!

cdalejef
06-30-2002, 10:08 AM
We were on the far right hand side of the mountain about half way up the gravel road. Our pits were right when you come out of the woods into the grass track/pit area. I talked to John Aares ( the anouncer) after the race and he said we WILL be going back there next year but the camping thing will be fixed.

That track was like most of the GNCC's were back in the 80's and early 90's.

Pappy
06-30-2002, 10:24 AM
thats awesome...gladly be there next time for sure. hey...was the course typical of a gncc race. i know there was no rain..but ya'll didnt look that muddy! what does the typical race have as far as water crossings etc? i know all about the rocks and hills etc. just wonderin what i may be getting into here!! hey jeff...how did the cables and batt work on the ex?

06-30-2002, 10:34 AM
kenny where was the gncc race? mabe next year ill drive down when i get my licence and i'll show you old farts a good ol' time. :D if i was there i wouldnt of paid $35 for a shirt. i would be like "holy crap look its elvis!" the race was in maryland. i geuss about 2 hours south of pittsburg. yes the shirts were pricey but about the same as any other event shirt. i hate the prices of sodas, water etc. i bet i spent 150$ there and thats not including the hotel. but wtf it was fun!

Tommy 17

can u run a +1.5 lsr axle in a gncc race or wouldn't u fit... i am tryin to figure out what i need to do to my quad so i can race mx and gncc and not be to wide...

i have no clue about gncc races... i dunno anythin about the starts or anything haha... i can't wait to race a couple though

250rmike
06-30-2002, 10:45 AM
it was at deep creek maryland. there were no water crossing at all and there was just alittle section of mud that cleared up after we got into the race.

Pappy
06-30-2002, 10:45 AM
i knew how they started and all...but if ya read the magazines they make it seem impossible to complete a lap at one of these races. i ride pretty good, and would like to try some next season. i have a friend that is absolutly insane in the woods..i cant stay within sight of him!! im tryin to get him to race a few also. i saw many a flat tire at the race...but mainly from rocks and torn sidewalls.

That was not a typical GNCC track! Most of the tracks are fairly easy and fast, not nearly as rocky or hilly as the Wisp was. There wasn't hardly any mud at the Wisp, some tracks have creek crossings and some don't, muddy tracks just depend on the weather. Taylortown was pretty muddy with all the rain we had.

I noticed a big difference in the amount of time that it takes to crank over the 400ex with the new battery and cables. Hopefully I will be adding a post with pics tomorrow on this setup.

Most GNCC track are pretty open so you can run an aftermarket axle. Just adjust it to the narowest setting for GNCC and the widest for MX. The starts are dead engine.

Pappy
06-30-2002, 11:33 AM
about the dead engine starts....most hare scrambles ive been to make you stand off the quad, then mount quad..start and go. are all gncc's same type of start as yesterday? what about running with the air box lid off? i wouldnt if it was rainin or muddy? i may need to make some minor changes to my quad for this.....how about the fuel...is a stock tank enough or should i run a larger clark tank?

250rmike
06-30-2002, 11:43 AM
i am acually glad that it didnt rain. going down and up those rocky hills if they were aetter would have sucked real bad. U should have seen all the guys sliding around the first race it was crazy. matrix u should have came, it was crazy rough there were people broke and stuck everywhere on the course.

cdalejef
06-30-2002, 11:43 AM
At all the GNCC's you sit on your quad and start it. The airbox lid is up to you, some guys run them and some don't. I do! My friend that won the 4-stroke stock class last year ran a stock tank all year and never hit reserve. If your 400 is modified or you like to race with the throttle pinned and use the clutch then you may want a big tank. Or you can always pit for a quick splash of fuel.

jeff post a pic of ur bike i might have some pics of you

It doesn't look like the pictures are going to do the hills justice! They were very steep and very long, they were the black diamond hills on the slopes for those of you that snow ski. They didn't even let the guys in the morning race go up them.

Pappy
06-30-2002, 11:48 AM
i think this guy on the lift had the best seat in the house!

Pappy
06-30-2002, 11:53 AM
oops..thats borich i believe..here ya go!

250rmike
06-30-2002, 11:55 AM
the main reason they didnt let us guys in the morning go up em was cause since it was so foggy earlier the ground was wet. it would have been hard for even the 4x4's to get up it. you should have seen the sport bikes take off you heard them rev there engines and noone went anywhere just spun. it was pretty funny though. a z400 got the 1st holeshot. i will post some more pics.

i have a bunch of videos going up the hill and some others if anyone wants them. i think i can email them. they are only 15 sec long each cause they are on a digital camera. just let me know i will post more pics

I started looking at the pics before paying attention to what was typed and was wondering where this came from. Look at these pics and look at last years wisp pics. Its like going way back in time but its only just a few years ago. Wow , this sport has really changed.
