i'm not a big fan of case savers.

all they do is create a place for the chain to bind up and break the case.

ever notice how most 250r's had the case saver mounting holes busted out of the case?

Noss Machine is hands down the best case saver, in my opinion. It actually wraps around the shift shaft (the only steel part) to give more hold on the engine. This, in theory, should prevent the chain from breaking off the case threads around the mounts.

My lazy @$$ forgot to check my chain last time I went riding and the chain flew up and binded into the front sprocket. It ripped the one bolt right out on top. So does that mean now Im going to have to retap that? I figured while the stock one is off its a good time to replace it.

That depends on how much damage it did when it pulled out. Post a picture and there should be plenty of people here that can make an educated recomendation.

Depending on the damage, there are a few things you can do: tap it out, install a helicoil, or you may even have to weld some extra aluminum on the case half.

Anything can be fixed, though.

I too have the Noss Machine one and I looked for ever for a case saver that look worth a damn. Most are thin and look too similar to the stock one. If I take off a thin steel piece and replace it with a thin aluminum peice, what the hell kind of sense does that make. The Noss Machine one is the thickest aftermarket saver out there. I got mine through BlueTraxx.com, I don't know how else to get one. Best saver IMO!

I also have the Noss case saver on my 450R. They DO NOT work with a 15t sprocket though.
I used to use them on my 250R also. Never had a problem with either model.

I like the TM Designworks case saver. Its made out of delrin so it will absorb more of the impact instead of transferring it into the case.
