hey i have a 400ex and i have 600 bucks to spend on engine work not including labor it is bored to a 406 now i ve got to replace the valve springs and sliders and i want a new piston, rings, cam, and a rev box what brands of these should i get, i am gonna go with a 416 this time tho

get the new hotcams stage 2 magnum rev box and je piston

i just found a hotcams stage 3 would u use that or stage 2

As far as the cam goes it depends on what type of riding you are doing, and/or what type of power curve you are looking for. A cam piston and air filter should run about 250-375 depending on brands, as far as labor, you could do a top end rebuild on your own. Another 35-50 for the bore and you should be easily within your price range. With labor included though you would exceed 600. I would get a JE piston, hotcam and filter

yea im thinkin stage 3 cam 416 11:1 JE piston a rev box drag port it heavy duty cam chain kibble white valve springs and run race gas and im gonna mess with the gearing some doin all the work except bore myself

i got a full yoshi pipe and a k and already and im dragging and riding some trails and TT, but mostly dragging

i would get a hotcam with a wiseco piston, K&N air filter, if money isnt an issue get an msd ignition

how much is the msd and does it improve performance much

MSDs are like $300 or so but they are a tunable ignition box.

I run a stage 3 if youre a real top end kind of guy Ide run that but it takes a few revs to wake it up though

Get a Ross 11:1 piston, a 379 grind web cam, a manual, and pay someone to do the work on your valves including stiffer springs.

Do the other work with the manual. $600 and then your actually almost fast.

Ignitions by far the last thing you wanna do. Maybe do a cheaper rev box, but dont go Dyna or MSd unless you have an already full blown motor. or are doing nitros,
