My computer has been acting up lately. It keeps flashing at the lower left that a network cable is unplugged. I just had the modem replaced and cable going from the modem to the computer but it still does it. Also it is really slowwwww. What could it be? I have been told that the net card is bad but how can I tell. Oh it is a Gateway compter

Try resetting your modem first, but then if that doesn't fix it make sure the Sending and Receiving lights are green on the modem. Check the strength of the signal and make sure its high. If not, repair the connection. If the modem cannot get a very good signal it may think that a connection is loose, saying a cable is unplugged.

The modem and the cable are less than a week old. I replaced them because I thought that is what the problem was but it wasn't

It's hard to say without knowing more that this or doing any troubleshooting but I would suspect some kind of malware on your PC.

Another common problem is having your network card duplex settings to "auto negotiate" the network speed instead of having it set to the proper settings (100 full). On sertain card types it can really make a difference.
