250 cc dirtbike engine in a racing lawnmower?

Ok so i used to be a lawn mower racer. yes it was pretty faster, i had it up to 55 once but now i wanna go fast. i'm thinkin about makin new motor mounts and puttin a yamaha yz 250 2 stroke in it. and if i put that engine in i'm gonna change the rear axle out so it can run a sprocket. i'm thinkin about usin a 4 wheeler axle with barrings from a go-kart but wats ur guys ideas so i can improve my plans.

I'd look at 250cc Cart motors. They are already setup for your situation.

i'd get the hayabusa engine or the kart engine but i'm lookin for this to be a fairly cheap project. plus i want gears so i can drop the clutch for the fun of it lol.

Ya i hope it'll be sick. but does anybody have any suggestions on i can rig up the shifter.

i have a gokart with a 500cc motorcycle engine on it. for the shifter we just rigged up a cable that goes from the shifter on the motor to a shifter on right side of the seat. it works but dont work the greatest takes for ever to shift. but when it ran on 2 cylinders 2nd gear was fast enough for driving around the yard, its geared kind of high.

It would be easier to come up with something if the motor was sitting on there so u had an idea of how everything is gonna go together. could have a linkage type system on there.

my friend has a xr100 engine on a lawn mower and i have a go kart engine on my lawn mower i can get it up to 35 and he can go about 45 50 but a new axle is a must

i'm wantin to shoot for aroun 65 or 70 or maybe faster. my friend had a 12 horse briggs and straton engine with a homemade blower from a vaccum and made his own cams and was runnin a 2" pulley in the rear and a 6" pulley in the front. but anyways that thing was clocked at 85!:eek2: but i'm not gonna be running the orignal transmission like i said earlier i'm gonna get a 4 wheeler axle or sumthin and fabricate my own mounts and barrings etc...

ya mine and his both ran off four wheeler axles and they were chain driven not belt
