stock carb will work it will need rejeted an posibly the air box lid removed i would recomend a k&n air filter for more air flow JUST KEEP IT CLEAN LOL 440 will work great on trail but will take a while to get used to mite have to stay in a lower gear than what you are used to having in a trail My cuz 440ex will walk all over a yfz(without mods of course)

Well if your going to go with a 440 piston (89mm) then you dont need to get a stroker crank. I'd suggest a stronger connecting rod and heavier head studs <---- deffinitely needed. Your going to have to get your old sleeve pressed out and have the new sleeve installed. If your wanting to run on pump gas/ 93 octane then youll want to go with an 11:1 compression ratio. Anything higher youll need a higher octane. If your wanting a stroker 440 then you can get a 4mm bigger crank and an 87mm piston (416 piston) and that will come out to be a 440 too.

ok go with a 11 to 1 weisco pro lite piston bout 120, go with a drop in webb cam cause u can use ur stock springs and rockers bout 150, go with a curtis sparks full exhaust they work the best on a 400 i have ran just about everything out there bout 450 dollars for exhaust. then drop 1 tooth in the front sprocket. u will be set and it should keep up. i not sayin iwill beat it cause it wont but i will actually be a race then.

with a 440 you dont need to drop a tooth on the front sprocket.
My built 416 will wax a stock 2005 450r. but with a uni filter on the 450r it is a dead even tie.

the 1st gear on my 416 with a 15t (stock on 04 and older) is so damn short that I never use it. it is un needed really, for some trail riding I use 1st, but it is so damn short that it is time to shift into seccond with in 2 secconds.

i would say a 440 that is fast would cost you about 1g by the time you are done.

well man i can never say that i have had any problems with a 400ex no matter what kind of work they have had done to it. i had a 2000 400ex with a lot of work done to it and i know what works and will still be reliable. a 440 just dont last as long and take the abuse that a stock bore will. i work on them all the time and the setup i told him is the setup im using on my buddies 05 400. he already has the exhaust, kn, advance timing, rev box, and jets. thats the most impresive power gain ive ever seen come out of a four wheeler for around 600 bucks

I dont see how anyone can leave a quad stock. I have had my 400ex scence the begining of this summer and like 5 days after I bought it I had a revbox and a outerfilters lid on it.
