High compression? OK, or not?

Has anyone heard of head gasket problems from high compression pistons? Any other problems it may cause?

Really high compression can blow out head gaskets, like 15:1 and up I think...other than that not any real downsides if you run the right octane and keep up on maintenance.

I'm running 220 lbs of compression in my R right now and have no problems with head gasket leaking.

Yeah, I run about that in my R also. But I heard since the 400 only has 4 headbolts, that it was a problem to go over 11:1 compression. Wanted to make sure.

Oh, I didn't realize you had a 400 also. I'm sure that like anything, the more compression you have, the harder it is on the parts. Do you race yours?

Not yet, I want it for a back-up bike. My girlfriend races it right now. I tried to ride it one time, but those guys were killing me in the straightaways. Those things are gutless stock. I sure hope $2000 will wake it up. Hey TRX250R87, are you going to Lorettas this year?

hey if you up the compression on a 300 to about lioke 12:1 or 13:1 are ya gonna have to switch starters or anythuing to crank that over? if so what is the best brand to go with ... i have heard good stuff about goeke starters
