Shift Shaft Install

I'm replacing the shift shaft (don't know if thats the right term...what the shifter itself attaches to, goes through sidecase). I'm not real sure on how to get the bad one out, and the new one in. Any tips would be a huge help. Thanks.

i think you just pull the clutch cover off and the shift shaft just pulls out. if your not replacing the seal make sure you clean the shaft off so you dont pull dirt thru. did it bend at the shifter?my friends did.
