Wow, I havent heard or seen anything like that. I wonder what honda would have to say about that?

welcome to my world. Mine did the exact same thing.

Supposedly it is from over revving, because the cranks arent that well balanced.

supposedly Natalie Jr. was having the same problem.

over revving as in you disabled the rev limiter and let er buck?

I would say it would be a flawed casting, Honda should cover it...........

What made you take it apart and find that, were you just checking something else, or was it making a noise or what?

Oil was puking out of the breather in the air box!! Thought I had a worn out piston rings..

When I pulled it down I noticed that I could move the crank side to side, like alot .032 or more!

So I tore into it only to find this crap.. Engine ran good and no noise and the bearing still intact.

I am finding out this is fairly common... :eek2:

Yeah its way more common than I think anyone will admit.

Mine ran fine as well. Although I did notice a little more engine noise.

All of my Tranny oil kept dissapearing, and my engine oil was suprisingly higher than when I had started.

good info, something to keep our eyes out for.

crank balancing is looking more and more appealing.:grr:

First off, sorry to you both to see this unfortunate occurance.
I bet you were both extremely disappointed to see that from HONDA.

It's of my opinion that crank and flywheel balancing is what could have assisted in the center case cracking.

This is why my next 450 build this month will be with the Falicon Super Crank and a balanced Trailtech flywheel.

the reason for the cases cracking is due to overevving

How do you over rev with the stock rev limiter in place? If that is what Honda is saying. looks to me like they should have put the limiter at a lower rpm. These bikes were built with intentions of racing, you would thik they would realize that they would be in upper rpm range the majority of the time.

Actually caused by bad right hand crank bearing ( spins in case and causes too much up and down play) Honda is replacing some of these!

Just because you have a rev limiter doesn't mean you can't over rev it

If you say RPM is the problem, then lets take it one step further!

Starting the engine caused this !!:eek2:

Sounds to me that you may have a oiling problem. Was it full of oil?

The only oil problem it had was pucking out the breather tube.. I do not see how a oil problem would crack a case and not destory the cam first!! This engine is very clean inside amd shows no sign of lack of oil !!

This may just be crappy cases made by Honda???

Have you called Honda yet? Might start with your dealer...then if no joy call Honda directly.
