Strange to ask this ??? in a Z-400 forum......It all depends what type of riding you are doing. From what I understand, the new Raptor 700 is quite the bike, but the older Raptors had frame/durability problems. If you are talking about a Raptor 350, go with the Z-400. If you are talking about the 700, it's a rocket....but probably more than most people can handle. I love my Z, had a 300EX before that, no comparison in my opinion.
If you want good power and handling for a reasonable price, Z-400. If you absolutely have to ride a monster, go with the Raptor. If the Raptor were a movie, it would be rated XXX. Learning to ride on that is like learning to drive in a top fuel dragster.

This isn't your first quad is it? The older Raptors are also better then the Z400s, unless you are going to MX it. As for the Raptor having frame issues, better double check that. The Suzuki and Kawis are the one's that have had their frames breaking, especially on the front where the shocks mount up.

dpends if a raptor 700 then the raptor but if u tlakin bout the 660 or 350 then def. a z400 or kfx400 cause a z400 stock for stock is about equal to a raptor 660 and will smoke a 350 and is way more reliable then both and just a much better wheeler

no joke dude...looked up stats and the 660 is a lil faster but they both come up to speed almost exactly the same

You might run with a stock 660 with your mods HR250, but put the same mods on the Raptor and the only veiw you'll ever have of it is from the rear...........:D

the z400 is 10000 times better, I've spent alot of time on each quad and the Z is so much better.
The raptor feels so goofy.

Unless you have cracked into the motor and put a 450 kit in it, the KFX 400 won't stand a chance in a drag race (at the dunes). The numbers may look good on paper, but unless you have worked on the motor, its not a race.

even with the 450 kit in a drag the 660 will take the kfx
all you need is a pipe and to take the air box lid of and the raptor 660 is a beast

We have raced several KFX and LTZ 400s that had a 450 kit in them. They ran good!

i didn't say they didn't, but my buddy has an 03 z400 with the complete yoush 450 kit and in a drag on pavement my 04 660 took it every time we raced all i had on my 660 was a yoush triad racing comp pipe, jet kit k$n, and raised the front sprocket one tooth
thats only in a drag race on a track i would much rather have a z400 or a modded 450

Its faster than a stock 660. Haven't ran it much since my mods cause you know how the weathers been here.......Brrrrrrr!
Waiting for a warmer day to make a trip to St. Joes AFTER I get some 4 snows. Do you ride there? How you like that HMF?

I have not ridden a new 700 Raptor, but I have owned an 01' Raptor, and also now my 05' ltz400. I can say from my personal experience that the Z is by far and away a better handling machine. The rappy obviously has some killer torque, but the downfalls of the handling by far and away outweigh the benefits of the motor.

The new 700 Raptor has fixed that. The best way to explain the new Raptor..... its a cross between the 660R and a YFZ 450, but runs better then the old 660R.

Sounds good. I'd be real intersted in riding one. :D

Not to flame anyone, but learning to ride a raptor is not hard at all for somebody with some experience at riding quads. I went from a Warrior to a Rap, no problem.
Next, while a Z has power, it is not like a Raptor. It is a very stable quad though, but a Raptor is not as bad as everyone else says.
If I had to start over and had to choose between a Rap or a Z, it would be a Raptor, no doubt.

P.S. Put me on the 700R test ride list.

The raptor already has the engine, it just needs suspension help. The Z has better suspension, just needs engine help. Both can be great but you can upgrade the raptor suspension and have a better quad than if you upgraded a Z's motor. I used to have an 02 raptor w/ 686 high comp. hc stg 1, pro circuit full sys, +1 1/4" swinger, +4 axle, full Elka suspension, Hiper beadlocks. It was by far the best quad I have ever ridden. I have a Honda 450r now w/ JE 13:1, hc stg 2, full HMF exhasut, ITP baja wheels, and DeReisi revalves. The Honda is not near the quad that my raptor was. Just my 2 cents.

Like I said before.....if you want speed and power, Raptor. If you want what is, in my opinion, a good all around bike, go Z.

I have a friend who is a dealership mechanic. He recommended the Z to me over the Raptor. He said the Z is a better all around bike and he doesn't like the Raptor AT ALL. In his words, "Raptors are for guys who like to go fast and make a lot of noise."

Not trying to "flame" on anyone's ride, but when a guy who has to fix 'em everyday recommends one bike over another, I tend to listen.

Why dont I see hardly any raptors at the harescrambles or the motocross tracks?? Its because they can't perform as well as the z's or any of the 450's. Go with a "z" or a 450!!! Leave the craptor alone.
