I have a dilema that I hope someone here can help me out with. Right now I have a 01 400ex. I also have an extra engine complete with all electronics, and a bunch of other 400 parts available to me through alot of my friends. Since I own my 400 now I want to sell it and use the money to build a nice MX setup bike. The only problem is getting a frame. ServiceHonda.com has no problem selling me a frame for a good price. One problem. Honda wont give them a frame with ,NEW, VIN numbers on it. The will only sell a frame with my numbers stamped into it. It would obviously be cheaper to for me to build one from the ground up than it would be to start from complete bike (especially since I have a complete engine). However, ........

The Problems-

-I can buy a frame from ebay, however I do not know the history of the bike, and I want to have a good serial number so I can not only register it but also insure it.
-If I get one with the same number as the one I have now, and I sell mine, and say that one gets stolen, then I have a "Stolen" quad. (obviously very superficial, however with my luck, it would happen)
-If I get one from Ebay, and take the numbers off or whatever, I could run into a problem at tracks or at state parks. (I have had my serial number ran once before)
-If I ever want to sell it (which I'm sure someday I will), I want to be able to.

I am kind of stuck right now, and do not know what to do. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

well i have to buy a new frame soon too, but thats because mines wrecked, so i can use my old numbers. for you, i think you might check into buying an aftermarket frame, they are expensive, but it would be stronger than stock and cheaper than a whole new bike..

If you want a nice mx bike and wanna do it up right,,, then get a aftermarket frame.

The problem with an aftermarket frame is they are expensive, and I wont have money for anything else. I really dont know what to do. I really dont have too many choices.

Here are two suggestions:

Use the engine serial # instead. (This is what my friend does.)

Make your own serial #.

If you buy a used frame make sure you get a clean title with it. If you buy a new after market frame you get a certificate of origin. We bought a Lonestar frame and race MX in expert class. The frame is JUNK.

The frame will be for sale shortly. We just ordered a new frame from Houser. He said it should be done in 2-3 weeks !!

Dont forget, its for a YZF426

Where can I get a Arens frame for $1200. I thought I was looking at something like 2000-2500 for an aftermarket frame. I will gladly dish out 1200 for a frame. Especially for an aftermarket.
