Can u get 90mph+ from an ex power plant?

just wondering how much mph can I get out of a ex engine, its an 02 stock now, but I have serious money to spend and was wondering what the best way to go? 460 stroker kits good? I heard anything over that is a hand gernade. I plan to ice race and dirt track it. the most I heard so far is around 80 mph. plz help.

I also like to be different, Everybody has yfzs and 450RS rapters etc, I want an EX that would stomp them down hard , and most of them are some what stock.

hey whats the top end on your banshee? and back to my first question, is 90 plus mph possiable? i was also thinking about a turbo for it and leaving the engine mostly stock.

i dont know if a ex would be to good to race 450;s with mayby a long travel z400/yoshi 450 kit idk

Ive seen a modifed 400ex beat 450s, rapters dvxs , banshees at an Ice race track many times and they were moded also. I never got to ask what was done to his bike though, but he did have jensen arms, swing arm and tcs shocks etc from what I could tell.

Do you not see by trying ot make your 400ex keep up with 450s you are losing a lot of reliability. I just don't see how it would be worth it to mod a 400ex like that anymore? I love my 400ex but i know that it will neve rbe as fast as a modded 450. Sure you could put a 465 in it and keep up with stock 450s, maybe beat them. But are you always going to be racing stockers? I don't really care, i think it would be funny to watch you waste 2,500 and come cry about it on here.

Stock, no. Start modding the motor, and put the right gearing and tire combination on it and yes.

Lets just say you can make anything go 90+mph, gearing is the key factor, but it just depends on how fast you wanna get there. But since its ice racing I guess low end wouldnt matter much. Liek he said motor mods and gearing.

not up here sell the EX for $4000 roughly and the $2500 and a 450R is $8500-9000, things just dotn go cheap up here.

If you are going to be racing it, Why would you need it to go 90mph on the track? You're never going to use the speed, so I'd work on bottem end power if i were you. If your going to be using it in the dunes, then sure 90mph would be nice.

If you wanted a SERIOUS answer, you should have posted in the Powertrain section, or the 400EX section. The Open Forum is the place for off-topic, and general screwing around.


As for the rest of you, the door swings both ways. If this thread was posted in the tech sections, I would expect serious answers. Sure, somebody can post the "Buy a different quad" suggestion, but I expect those suggestions to end as soon as he shows he's not interested, and proceeds to re-emphasize the original question. He's done that three times now, and STILL nobody has given him a proper answer.


Now that the formalities are out of the way, I think you should sell the 400EX and buy a 250r instead. :devil:

a 500 kit will get u going i think 86 with stock gearing and 21 inch tires and u will go 50 in 3rd gear.

Are you talking Kilometers per hour?

With stock gearing, you can't go any faster than stock speed, and the stock speed ain't anywhere NEAR 86mph. At that point, it's not about horsepower, it's about rev limit. To hit 86mph with the stock gearing, you'd have to be turning about 13,000 rpms, and there ain't no 500 kit that will turn those kind of revs.

their was a dyno in 3rd gear but their was a dyno on 5th gear but i dont ess it on their now when i looked.
