where do you want to beat them at? If your talkin' straight drag, you'll need a big bore, cams, ignition and re-gearing to get you close!
don't listen to the people who say they beat raptors all day on a stock z, that ain't gonna happen unless the raptor is parked!

all i have on my 04 kfx is a full system hmf, twinair filter, and i kept up when we were both in 5th but when he clicked 6th he was gone i got beat by a bike length

Kfxrider35..The raptor dosent have a 6th gear.. He was probably in 4th and then clicked into 5th.. I have a stock z400 and I can beat raptors all day long in acceleration, usually up until I just click into 5th but then the extra 260cc's kick in and those raptors are gone...

no your wrong before they updated the trans in 2001 it had six forward gears

You will need a full exhuast, jet kit, trash the lid, regear, Hot Cam, and probably hi-comp piston/big bore. Also, remember that a Raptor will respond better to upgrades so if you see a Rap with similar upgrades to you, stay away!

race him in the tight woods..you need no mods to beat a craptur there.

You can beat him depending on what you want to do and how long the "race" will last. I have beaten Raptors on a 400ex with few mods, no joke. It is the top-end where I am killed, so if I want to win or make it fair ( To me LOL) race a shorter race or at a place where you are at the advantage.

such as tight trails, or a track. ill beat anything in tight trails

My quad is pretty well built and I can beat a raptor even if it isn't stock They do have a higher top gear but you can and will be faster in the long run!!! As far as what you need to beat one well, start with a well adjusted clutch 'cause you need the holeshot, after that big mods, and I know everyone looks to hotcams but take a look at what webcam has to offer. Alba also makes great parts for the Z and there parts department has really helped me. I'd run a 440 kit, 13.5:1 comp. piston good race rod, have the crank balanced and go with a good rev box, port and polish the head, web cams and valve springs. Run 18" tires in the rear then go with a bigger front sprocket say a tooth which is about four on the rear. That should be close but jetting will be a pain and it's expensive!! If you compare apples to apples then who c.......... on second thought who compares apples to apples:devil: !!!!!!!!

Alright... first off. I have heard many dissapointed with a wiseco 440. I have heard nothing but good about a 434 athena, and its straight bolt on, no boring.

Get a good pipe, i recommend pulse charger. K and N of course. Cams. remove the lid, rejet.

This should outrun a craptor. Maybe a pipe/filter not sure but...

take a look at advantagecycle for parts, z400central seems to be most helpful info wise.
