2000 warrior. it idles kinda weard, it will be smooth, and then pop in the intake, and then it will be rought almost die. hot and cold it is the same.
if you ride it, it is just fine, it will pull hard in every gear. i took the carb all apart and cleaned everything realy good. could we have a intake valve sticking at idle, and that is the goofy idle?
it also has a new spark plug.
any ideas???

Possibly running too rich. That's the only thing I can think of.

That doesn't always mean anything though. If the filter were dirty enough, it could cause it to run rich. Also, don't know about where you live at, but we've noticed a problem around here, with bone stock 400EX's running a bit rich. So, there could be alot of little variables in there that could change the air/fuel ratio. I'd say to check the plug color, just to see.

check your intake boot could be air leaking somewhere!

common warrior problem!

brand new intake boot. we are in central il. it is cold here right now, so if anything it would be lean. but it did this over the summer also.

If you're 100% sure the boot isn't leaking....

Perhaps the previous owner did work on the quad?

It almost sounds like your getting blowback. Cam timing may be off.

i took come carb spray and sprayed everything down looking for a leak....and nothing. i think mabey a sticking intake valve??? and then at a high rpm it is working ok??? i need to do a leak down test!!
